💛 A little update on Holly 💛
We thought it was time for an update on where things are up to.
The positive news is that the infection in Holly’s central line has now completely cleared and her antibiotics for this have finished. Following her bronchoscopy, no bacterial infection was found in her lungs. However, it did confirm that Holly has a fungal lung infection, so she is continuing on IV antifungal medication. Thankfully, the infection is showing signs of improvement.
Another big milestone was last night being the first night Holly hasn’t needed any oxygen support, which we were so pleased about. She is still requiring regular IV paracetamol to help manage her temperatures, but the spikes are becoming less frequent.
The photo with this post is from today, when Holly was feeling well enough to spend some time in the ward play room. Seeing her out of her room and enjoying herself, even for a little while, was a lovely reminder of the happy, playful little girl she is. 🥹💛
We are hopeful that this improvement will continue and that Holly will be well enough to come home this week, where she can recover in the comfort of her own surroundings.
Unfortunately, there has also been a setback. Holly’s second round of chemotherapy was due to start yesterday, but this has had to be delayed. The infections have made her very unwell and her blood counts have not yet recovered enough for treatment to go ahead safely. At the moment, chemotherapy has been postponed for at least a week while her body has more time to recover.
As always, thank you for every message, share, donation and fundraiser. Your support means the world to us and helps us continue to give Holly hope. 💛
