POV: The nurse who does bloods for a living... HATES getting bloods done 😂

This is how much I trust Jess.

I'm the biggest wimp when it comes to IVs and blood tests — and when patients tell me "I'm a bit nervous" I mean it when I say "me too".

Being a brave girl today getting my own health monitoring done. Yes, I have health conditions that need regular monitoring too — it's necessary, even when you hate needles.

Jess is literally the gentlest phlebotomist I know. I trust her implicitly — which is why we work together. She even puts up with my amateur dramatics.

That tiny bottle? It's Depo-Medrone.

Not gym steroids. It's a corticosteroid we use to calm inflammation.

We use it for 3 main things in clinic:

1. Joint pain — sore knees, arthritic pain when rest + physio isn't enough
2. Scars — thick, raised keloid scars after injury or surgery to flatten and soften them
3. Allergies — severe hayfever flare ups (when other options haven't worked)

It works by quieting the inflammatory response — so pain eases and scars look better.

It's not for everyone and it's not a first-line for everything — we always assess first.

Hot take: You don't need a B12 jab for energy unless you're actually deficient.

If your levels are fine, you don't get more energy — you just wee it out.

You DO need B12 if you have:
✓ True low B12 on bloods + symptoms (fatigue, pins & needles, sore tongue, brain fog)
✓ Absorption issues — vegan diet, pernicious anaemia, gastric surgery, metformin, long-term antacids

You DON'T need it just because you had a tired week.

At Promed we test BEFORE we jab. B12 + folate + intrinsic factor if needed. If you're low, we treat you properly. If not, we find what IS causing it.

Stop guessing. Test, don't jab.
