💚 MYTH vs FACT: What does good home care really look like?

There are still plenty of misconceptions about receiving care at home — including the idea that care is only about personal needs or that accepting support means giving up the things you enjoy.

The reality is very different.

At Mountbatton Care, companionship is an important part of the support we provide. A friendly face, a conversation, a trip out or simply spending meaningful time together can make a real difference to someone’s wellbeing.

And needing a little support certainly doesn’t mean giving up your independence or hobbies. Good care should help people continue doing the things they love — whether that’s gardening, shopping, attending clubs, getting out into the community or spending time with friends.

Our goal is always to support people to live happy, fulfilling and independent lives on their own terms.

Good care doesn’t take away independence — it helps protect it.

💙 Care with dignity, compassion… and sometimes a little laughter too. 💙

Receiving feedback like this from a family member means so much to our whole team.

Palliative care is about supporting people and their families through some of the most difficult circumstances, while ensuring that dignity, respect and compassion remain at the heart of every visit.

We’re especially proud that this review recognises something our carers do so naturally, bringing a little bit of normality, warmth and humour into the home. Sometimes a shared joke, a smile or a familiar conversation can be just as important as the practical care being provided.

Our carers consistently go above and beyond, not because they have to, but because they genuinely care about the people and families they support. Maintaining high standards while never losing that human touch is exactly what we want Mountbatton Care to represent.

A huge thank you to our wonderful care team for the difference you make every single day, and to this family for trusting us at such an important time.

🎨📸 LEO’S ADVENTURES – GETTING CREATIVE IN THE COMMUNITY! 📸🎨

Another new experience for Leo!

Last week, Leo visited Scrapyard Studios, where the team made him feel incredibly welcome. Leo got stuck in and helped with the painting of their new mural, as well as putting his photography skills to good use by capturing the day on his professional camera.

For us, person-centred support is about so much more than day-to-day care. It’s about encouraging new experiences, building confidence, exploring interests and helping the people we support feel connected to the community around them.

A huge well done to Leo for getting involved and trying something new! And a big thank you to Jake and Joanne for supporting and encouraging Leo to take part.

We’re also very lucky to have neighbours like Scrapyard Studios, who are doing fantastic work within our local community and creating welcoming spaces where people can get involved, be creative and feel included.

Here’s to more of Leo’s Adventures and plenty more new experiences to come!

💜 Grief Awareness Day | 30th August 💜

Grief is something we all experience differently. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, no set timeline, and no expectation to "move on." Whether you've recently lost someone, are remembering a loved one from years ago, or are supporting someone through loss, it's important to know that you are not alone.

At Mountbatton Care, we understand that grief can affect every aspect of a person's life. It can impact emotional wellbeing, physical health, relationships and daily routines. That's why compassion, patience and simply being there for one another can make such a meaningful difference.

Today, on Grief Awareness Day, we encourage everyone to:
💜 Be kind to yourself and others.
💜 Reach out if you need support.
💜 Take time to remember those you love.
💜 Check in on friends, family, neighbours or colleagues who may be struggling.
💜 Remember that healing looks different for everyone.

Sometimes the greatest comfort comes from knowing someone is listening. A conversation, a shared memory or a simple act of kindness can mean more than we realise.

If you or someone you know is experiencing grief, please remember that support is available, and it's always okay to ask for help.

Take care of yourself, and let's continue to create a community where nobody has to face grief alone.

💙 Reviews like this make us incredibly proud. 💙

Receiving such lovely feedback through homecare.co.uk, the UK’s leading home care reviews website, means so much to everyone at Mountbatton Care.

When someone says “I don’t know what I would do without them”, it’s a wonderful reminder of the difference our carers make every single day.

Behind those words are our amazing staff providing support morning, noon and night — helping with everyday routines, being there when needed and, most importantly, delivering care with kindness, dignity, compassion and respect.

We are incredibly proud of our teams and the consistently high standards of care they provide. Maintaining those standards and continually looking at how we can improve is at the heart of everything we do.

To all of our carers — this feedback is for you. Thank you for the difference you make.

You said it, we’re proud to share it!

Our latest surveys gave the people we support and our staff the opportunity to tell us what we’re doing well and where we can continue to improve.

And we’re incredibly proud of the feedback.

Across Domiciliary Care, Supported Living and our Staff Survey, some of the results included:

💙 100% of our Domiciliary Care respondents said they are involved in decisions about their care.

💚 100% of our Supported Living respondents said they are involved in the planning and delivery of their care.

💙 100% of Supported Living respondents said their support is delivered consistently by staff who know them.

💚 100% of staff said they feel valued as a member of the team.

💙 100% said they feel confident raising concerns and that their voice will be heard.

💚 100% said they feel able to act quickly when they have concerns about the care of someone we support.

💙 100% said there are opportunities to learn and develop.

💚 100% feel Mountbatton Care cares about their wellbeing.

💙 And 98% of staff intend to stay with us for at least the next 12 months.

These aren't just numbers to us.

They reflect what we work towards every day: people having a genuine voice in their care, consistent support from people who know them, and a workforce that feels valued, supported and confident to speak up.

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our surveys. Your feedback helps us celebrate what we're doing well while continuing to listen, learn and improve.

Great care starts with listening.

MYTH vs FACT: Let’s talk about care…

There are still so many misconceptions about what accepting care and support really means.

❌ MYTH: People living with dementia can’t stay in their own home.
✅ FACT: With the right support, many people can continue living safely and happily in the place they know best – surrounded by familiar belongings, routines and memories.

❌ MYTH: Accepting help means you’ve lost your independence.
✅ FACT: The right support can actually help you maintain your independence, choices and confidence for longer.

At Mountbatton Care, good care isn’t about taking over. It’s about finding out what matters to you and providing the right level of support to help you continue living life your way.

Because needing a helping hand doesn't mean losing your independence.

Everyone needs help sometimes.

✈️💙 Leo’s Adventures: Blackpool Air Show! 💙✈️

Another adventure for Leo — and this time, all eyes were on the sky!

Accompanied by Rav and Jake, Leo headed to the Blackpool Air Show for a day by the seaside, watching some incredible aircraft displays and taking in everything the event had to offer.

At Mountbatton Care, person-centred support is about much more than everyday routines. It’s about getting to know what someone enjoys, encouraging their interests and creating opportunities to get out, experience new things and make great memories.

From watching the planes overhead ✈️ to enjoying the seafront and exploring the sights of Blackpool, it was another brilliant experience to add to Leo’s growing list of adventures!

A big thank you to Rav and Jake for supporting Leo to get out there and enjoy the day.

New places. New experiences. Great memories.

Reviews like this mean so much to our team.

Behind every visit is a team of people working together to make sure the people we support receive the care they need — with kindness, dignity and professionalism at the heart of it.

We were incredibly grateful to receive this lovely feedback from the wife of someone we supported:

“Really caring staff, nothing too much trouble. I found all the carers that assisted my husband to be really dedicated people. Their work was given with kindness and professionalism, and always aware of my husband's dignity.”

She also shared how, when her husband was discharged from hospital earlier than expected and suddenly needed a lunchtime visit, our management and office team stepped in to make sure there was no gap in his care.

“I would not hesitate to recommend them. I can’t thank them enough!”

Pictured are Rav, our Care Coordinator, and Lauren, our Field Care Supervisor — two of the people working behind the scenes to keep care running smoothly and respond when plans unexpectedly change.

For us, good care isn't just about what happens during a scheduled visit. It's about being responsive, working together and doing everything we can to be there when someone needs us most.
