Our CEO, Greta Westwood CBE, recently completed the Southampton Half Marathon to raise money to fund a future FNF scholar.

Taking just 2hrs and 6 minutes, Greta absolutely smashed it. She shared: "FNF provides leadership scholarships and programmes that simply wouldn’t exist without charitable support. Running this race is my way of investing in that mission - and in the thousands of patients who benefit when nursing and midwifery leadership is at its very best."

FNF Scholarships are open for applications until 15 November, that's just one month to get your application in!

We have updated the eligibility for the 2027-28 scholarship and the curriculum is now mapped to Stage 4 of the NHS Leadership and Management Framework (Executive and Board-Level Leaders). The Florence Nightingale Foundation's Windrush Leadership Programme is designed to support nurses and midwives from Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority backgrounds in England to develop their leadership skills, confidence and influence.

Funded by NHS England, the programme combines leadership development, action learning and a quality improvement project focused on tackling health inequalities, helping participants create positive change for patients, communities and colleagues.

If you're passionate about making a difference and want to grow as a leader while connecting with a supportive network of peers, we'd love to hear from you.

Applications are now open for the Windrush Leadership Programme.

Sponsored by NHS England, the programme aims to provide equity of access to leadership opportunities for nurses and midwives from Black, Asian or Ethnic Minority backgrounds.

Through leadership workshops, action learning sets and a quality improvement project focused on health inequalities, participants will build leadership skills, increase confidence, refine their leadership style and strengthen their personal impact.

Previous programme participant, Adedayo Oriade, Renal Nurse, said of the experience:

"Completing the Windrush Leadership Programme was a huge milestone for me as a renal nurse and emerging leader...I developed a nurse-led quality improvement project focused on inequalities in access to living donor kidney transplantation for BAME haemodialysis patients. Developing the project showed me how nurses can identify inequalities within everyday practice and use their position to make practical changes that improve the way patients are informed and supported."

Congratulations to our CEO, Greta Westwood CBE, PhD, RN, who completed the Southampton Half Marathon on Sunday in an impressive 2 hours and 6 minutes!

While the race is over, Greta's fundraising challenge continues. She's aiming to raise £12,250 to fund a scholarship place for the 2027-28 Florence Nightingale Foundation intake, helping future nursing and midwifery leaders access transformational leadership development opportunities.
