We work to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities through a three pronged approach: research, wheelchair distribution and rehabilitation. We believe that this model tackles the issue from all angles, allowing us to find both short and long term solutions to finding a cure for paralysis.

Meet Samuel, a 20-year-old man from Uganda 🇺🇬

Samuel has Cerebral Palsy and has spent much of his life confined to his home due to limited mobility.

In July, Samuel received a wheelchair through our distribution in Uganda, which was made possible thanks to the support of Philanthropy, and in partnership with .

Thanks to his new wheelchair, Samuel can now attend church, join social gatherings and be more involved in his local community.

This is what means: opening doors to greater independence, connection and inclusion.

Our Mobile Clinic is ready to begin its journey across Kenya 🚐

For many people living with mobility disabilities, travelling long distances is not always possible, especially for families living in remote communities.

The vehicle has been specially modified to enable our team to carry out complex adaptations directly in the field, meaning fewer journeys and shorter waiting times for beneficiaries, while helping us reach even more people in need.
The Mobile Clinic marks an exciting new chapter for our work in Kenya, expanding our reach and helping bring our services directly to communities that need them most.

Every year, our co-founder Carolina and her family visit our Centre in Kenya 💙

During their recent trip in August, they spent time with our team at the Centre, visited local schools, stopped by the Walkabout CP Warriors Daycare Centre and even joined in a game of para volleyball.

These visits are always a special opportunity to reconnect with the people and communities at the heart of our work, and to see our programmes in action across Kenya.

Happy Birthday, Luis! 🎂

Today, we’re celebrating our co-founder’s birthday, and the story that started Walkabout more than 15 years ago.

At the age of 18, Luis’ life changed forever after a Spinal Cord Injury left him paralysed from the waist down.

Together with his sister Carolina, they founded Walkabout with a simple mission – to restore mobility to people with disabilities around the world.

This year, in honour of Luis’ birthday, we’re raising funds to help establish our new Centre in the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴

We couldn’t be prouder of our little big fundraisers! 💙

Our co-founder recently visited our Kenya Centre with her kids, Andrea and Delfina, who have been busy raising funds and awareness for the work our team does every day.

So far, they’ve raised over £29,000 ($38,000) – the equivalent of 116 wheelchairs for people in need ♿️

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated, and of course to Delfina and Andrea for showing us that you’re never too young to make a difference.

This September, we’re celebrating our co-founder Luis’ birthday by fundraising for a project that means a great deal to Luis and his family: Walkabout Foundation República Dominicana 🇩🇴

We’re raising funds to help bring our new Centre in Dajabón to life, providing wheelchairs, repairs, rehabilitation and outreach to people across the Dominican Republic and neighbouring Haiti.
