EPISODE 4: THE SLEEP SERIES 💤

You’ve probably heard people say “you should journal before bed”… but do you actually know why it helps with sleep?

If your mind is racing at night, journalling can be one of the simplest ways to slow down mental noise and calm the nervous system.

In Part 4 of The Sleep Series, resilience and self-leadership coach Jessica Baccanello shares a journalling technique she recommends when your thoughts won’t switch off.

✨ The brain dump technique

When your mind is busy, try writing everything that’s on your mind onto paper, without filtering or editing. Why this works:
• We can’t write as fast as we think, which naturally slows our thoughts down
• It activates the prefrontal cortex (the rational “CEO” of the brain)
• It helps create distance from thoughts the mind might be catastrophising about
Once you’ve emptied your thoughts onto paper, you can take it one step further.

✨ Reframe the story

After the brain dump, gently rewrite or reframe the situation in a more positive or abundant light.

This helps the brain shift from worry mode → perspective mode, making it much easier to settle into sleep.

The goal isn’t to stop thoughts completely — it’s to give them somewhere to go so your mind can finally rest.

Save this to try tonight ✍️
And stay tuned for the final Part 5 of The Sleep Series for more practical tools to help you sleep deeper, naturally 🤍

EPISODE 3: THE SLEEP SERIES 💤

You’ve probably heard the advice to avoid screens before bed…but the real issue is overstimulation.

If you’re a sensitive sleeper, what you consume in the evening can quietly activate your stress response, making it much harder for the body to switch into sleep mode.

In Part 3 of The Sleep Series, resilience and self-leadership coach Jessica Baccanello shares a simple but often overlooked tip for improving sleep quality:

✨ Avoid anything too stimulating before bed

That includes:
• Reading the news
• Fear-inducing or stressful content
• Difficult conversations
• Responding to tricky emails
• Anything that triggers a stress response

Even if you feel “tired”, your nervous system may still be in alert mode. Instead, focus on activities that gently activate the parasympathetic nervous system - the body’s rest and digest state.

Try:
✨ Watching something light or funny
✨ Cuddling with a partner or pet
✨ Gentle massage
✨ Quiet, calming activities that help your body soften

The goal isn’t just to feel tired, it’s to feel safe enough to switch off.

Save this as a reminder for tonight and stay tuned for Part 4 of our Sleep Series 🤍
