Did you know Lumi Nova can support children struggling with Emetophobia (a fear of vomit)? 🤢

For example, for some children, a fear of vomiting may present as anxiety around certain foods or only eating ‘safe’ foods, avoiding peers who feel unwell, avoiding public toilets, excessive hygiene routines, or even avoiding school entirely.

Families are being offered new support from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin (CAMHS STW).

The enhanced offer from CAMHS STW forms an important part of its three-year journey of change following the service’s launch in April.

The service, provided by Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) is working with new partners Xyla and BFB Labs. It replaces the partnerships from the previous contract, and follows extensive engagement with children, families and carers over the last 12 months.

The new digital therapy offer, delivered by BFB Labs is called Lumi Nova and is available via CAMHS STW’s webpage: www.mpft.nhs.uk/camhs-stw. Lumi Nova: Tales of Courage is a digital therapeutic mobile game supporting children with fears, worries and anxiety. Designed for children aged 7-12 years, it helps them reflect on their feelings, build resilience, and learn lifelong skills to self-manage their worries via a fun intergalactic adventure.

The new specialist neurodevelopmental offer, provided by Xyla will be accessible to children, young people and families via an onward referral from CAMHS STW. Xyla is a trusted NHS partner, working to deliver neurodevelopmental services for children and young people aged 0–25 years. Its service includes triage, assessment and treatment pathways for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism, delivered in line with national guidance.

As part of this process, CAMHS STW will proactively contact families who have been waiting the longest on its existing waiting lists. These families will be offered the opportunity to consent to an onward referral to Xyla, helping to ensure quicker access to assessment and support. Xyla works closely with local partners, including schools to ensure a coordinated approach and clear, personalised support for children, young people, and their families.

The service will continue to work with STW-based voluntary sector organisation All About Youth, formerly known as SYA, who provide ‘Time to Talk’ and drop-in sessions at a number of local schools.

Cathy Riley, Managing Director of MPFT’s Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Care Group said: “We’re really pleased to be working with new partners Xyla and BFB Labs in offering this enhanced support for children, young people and their families in the county.

“This new offer forms an important part of the service’s three-year journey of change following its launch in April. In being able to offer this innovative and specialist support, the team are working to deliver real change for those in need of support, prioritising easier access, earlier help and more joined-up care.”
