A common misconception is that dissolving somehow damages or changes the skin and facial tissues, but thatā€™s not the case.

Your face isnā€™t going to be exactly the same as it was when you first started having filler. Over time your face naturally ages, and filler will mask some of those changes.

So when you dissolve the filler, youā€™re not getting your younger face back. Youā€™re seeing your face as it would be had you not had any filler.

And if youā€™ve had a lot of filler over time, the skin and soft tissue may have stretched beyond its capacity to ā€œsnap backā€ with dissolving exposing this reality.

A little more about the treatment plan behind this result.šŸ’œ

When I first saw this patient, the first thing I wanted to address was the laxity in the lower face. There was some volume loss as well, but I didnā€™t want to simply add volume and risk making the face look heavier or puffier.

So, I started by improving the quality and elasticity of the skin. We did a course of Sculptra, six vials in total, gradually working on the laxity and improving the overall firmness of the skin.

We simulataneously used some carefully placed fillerĀ to restore areas of volume loss, as well as IPLĀ to address pigmentation and improve the overall evenness and luminosity of her skin.

The result is a really nice example of why I often prefer a layered, gradual approachĀ rather than trying to correct everything with filler alone.
