After taking feedback from some of my regular clients, my open one day Emergency First Aid courses are now going to blended courses. 2 hours of theory online and then a 4 hour practical face to face course from 9am-1pm.

With Martyn's Law coming into effect at some point after April 2027, critical bleed (or Life Threatening Bleed) courses will be becoming a regular thing. To help schools prepare for that I'm going to be running a free training session on 5th October open to any schools in South West London, limited to one person per school. The session will be from 9am-12pm in Whitton, and anyone attending will need to hold a current First Aid certificate. Get in touch if you'd like to attend

The Fire Brigade are working amazingly hard right now. I saw two appliances on blues when I drove home earlier and then one attended a fire in my road. Once the fire was sorted I took them a bunch of colds drinks from my fridge and their appreciation was genuine. Let’s support our Fire fighters now like we did the NHS in Covid.

The new guidance for Benedict's Law has been released by the DfE and is law from 1st September.
Key points for schools from my perspective: You have to have spare AAIs (Epipens) kept in pairs that can be fetched in 5 minutes, so larger schools will need to keep more than one pair of Epipens. Primaries need to buy pairs of both the 150mg and 300mg doses. Schools should also consider taking spare AAIs on school trips, from which I'm guessing large groups or when you're remote from medical help. This will mean that a lot of schools will be buying additional AAIs in September; I suspect a shortage is foreseeable.
ALL STAFF, including those running clubs and regular volunteers need to complete allergy awareness training.

How are you storing your Epipens in these warm temperatures? They should be kept between 15C and 25C, so you need them somewhere not too hot and not too cold, just like Goldilocks porridge. An insulated cold box will moderate temperatures, perhaps with the occasional cold block or even a cold bottle of water to keep them cool. Alternatively keep them in a sealed plastic box with a damp tea towel on top. If you've got easy alternatives, do let me know.

Would you know where your nearest public access defibrillator is? Defib finder is where you can find out, so that if a medical emergency happens, at least you know where to send someone to get the equipment you need.

A great initiative! There's far too much fuss made about removing a bra in an emergency situation.

A charity says people can be hesitant to give women CPR as they are reluctant to touch their chests.
