Words of wisdom

I have several favourite sayings and words of wisdom.

This is probably my all-time favourite:

“…grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.”

I use it to help me navigate life and remember not to waste my valuable energy sweating the stuff I can do nothing about.

When the going gets tough, it helps me regain perspective and take control of the controllables.

What are your favourite words of wisdom?

Spotlight on Maisie!

Maisie is simply brilliant and another colleague NeuroVitality is proud to have on the team. She has a wealth of experience and knowledge when it comes to neurodivergence, and she is happy to share her hard-won wisdom. Maisie doesn’t mind sharing that she has a diagnosis of ADHD and is mother to two energetic neurodivergent boys.

With nearly 20 years’ experience working in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), neurodiversity, pastoral welfare and equality, diversity and inclusion, Maisie knows how the system works. Her expertise extends across education, social services, social care and the private sector. She knows her stuff and her workshops, training sessions and coaching are all grounded in a deep knowledge and understanding of the issues and complexities experienced by those who are neurodivergent.

If you want a presenter who is passionate, a trainer who is compassionate, or a coach who simply gets it, you need Maisie!

We can’t afford to stick our heads in the sand!

The latest report from CIPD and Simplyhealth revealed another record high for absence levels in the UK: 9.4 days in 2025, up from 7.8 in 2023, and mental ill health is now the top cause of long-term absence and the second main cause of short-term absence in the UK.

We ignore the stats at our peril. We can’t afford to stick our heads in the sand and hope the problem will go away. It won’t. And the current economic and global stressors aren’t making the situation any better.

This is where our specialist team can help. We run a wide range of mental health courses, both online and in person. Ranging from the official Mental Health First Aid courses, to bespoke Mental Health sessions designed to meet the specific needs of your organisation – we have got it covered.

Gratitude

I have lots to be grateful for. I have my health, a great partner, and a job I love. I am also lucky enough to still have both of my parents in my life. AND I am off to help my Dad celebrate his 85th Birthday this weekend.

AND better still, when we focus on the things we are grateful for we feel better, our biology appreciates it and we get a hit of the feelgood neurotransmitters. It’s a simple way to hack your chemistry – So what are you grateful for today?

SPOTLIGHT ON DR TOM

Well, where do I start?!

Tom is a whirlwind of an individual. His knowledge (and lived experience) of neurodivergence is off the scale and if you want a presenter who will hold an audience’s attention, motivate them and make them think, Tom is your man. He doesn’t do dull. He does full on passion and purpose.

As an internationally recognised expert in Neurodiversity and Mental Health, his public lectures sell out, and his keynote speeches pack a punch. His training sessions engage, entertain and are designed to create lasting change and systems that support people not just check boxes.

AND he does all this whilst being a hands-on Dad, working as Assistant Professor of Mental Health Nursing at Northumbria University and recording (amongst other things) materials for Mental Health First Aid England…To say he has energy, and drive would be an understatement. Suffice to say we feel very lucky to work with him at NeuroVitality Ltd.

ADHD &Neurodiversity Specialist I am an ADHD, Neurodiversity & Mental Health International Speaker delivering sold-out public lectures, corporate training, keynote speeches & bespoke solutions.Additionally I’m an assistant professor of mental health nursing at Northumbria University and hold the r...

Under normal circumstances leading a team can be tough. Leading a team on a ship, in the Antarctic, adds a whole other layer of complexity to the matter. I was privileged to work with the British Antarctic Survey this week, discussing Mental Health and how to manage it in high pressure environments.

CPD is so important and floats my boat! I don’t think I will ever tire of learning new things and honing old skills. It also makes a pleasant change to be on the receiving end to training and I thoroughly enjoyed getting accredited by MHFA England to deliver their new Mental Health Skills for Managers’ course yesterday.

Spotlight

This is the second in our Spotlight Series, giving you the opportunity to meet some of the simply brilliant people we are lucky enough to have as part of the team at .

Spotlight on Marie!

Marie Guest is a powerhouse of an individual, running her own successful HR business and fortunately for us, working as an Associate of NeuroVitality Ltd.

When it comes to training she is tour de force. She knows how to engage an audience, whether online, or in-person. She has an ability to create an environment where participants can speak openly and candidly. Her expertise and her humour always shine through. She is one of life’s great communicators; a presenter who doesn’t just deliver content, she makes it come alive. We count ourselves extremely lucky to have her in our camp!

And her talents don’t stop there. When it comes to all things Human Resources Marie knows her onions! From people and talent strategies, to unpicking employee issues, Marie and her team are the people you need. With a commercial mindset, they partner with companies to enable them to create great places to work where people and business can thrive. We all know that employment law can tie us up in knots. Marie has real cut through and works with businesses to establish policies and ways of working that are operationally sound and in line with all the latest statutory requirements. All this along with a healthy dose of humour and just the right amount of challenge to enable clients to level up their HR offering to their teams.

Today I am back with Beazley Group

We are living in uncertain and rapidly changing times. It can be unsettling to say the least. So, what can you do about it? How can you minimise stress and maximise your personal wellbeing? How can you support yourself when the going gets tough? What works? (Spoiler alert: it’s not one size fits all!)

Love running this session that explores all things resilience related. Cannot wait!

Did you know, 40% of employees in the UK say their manager does not regularly check in on their wellbeing?

What interests me is what stops them?

Managers should not be expected to be counsellors and therapists, but they should be trained with the skills they need to effectively support their team. That includes developing the confidence and emotional intelligence needed to ask questions and be able to navigate the conversations that arise.

If there is a problem, you can’t address it unless you know about it, and you are more likely to know about it if you ask. Checking in on your team’s wellbeing should be part and parcel of the managerial role.

Our bespoke courses are designed to support your managers to support their teams. Contact us to find out more at [email protected]

I love the quote attributed to Thomas Edison (he of light bulb creation fame).

“I have not failed. I have simply found 10,000 ways that do not work!”

He exhibited a “growth mindset” way before the term was coined.

When something doesn’t go exactly to plan, we have a choice. We can see it as a disaster, or we can see it as part of the learning curve and an interesting challenge.

Neither way of thinking is right or wrong. Neither way of thinking changes the situation, BUT how we think does change the way we experience the situation. Think something is a disaster and we feel stress, anxiety, worry, and/or concern. Think something is part of the learning curve and an interesting challenge and we feel curiosity, fascination, and opportunity. We open possibilities for growth, development and success.

Mastering your mindset matters!

We run a range of sessions exploring how you can master your mindset and achieve your goals. Contact us to learn more or check out the website at: www.neurovitalityltd.com
