4 years ago today we officially went on national lockdown. People were sent to stay home and save lives.
4 years ago today Romeo was due to have an MRI before his pacemaker was inserted, our only opportunity for him to ever have an MRI to find out what was really going on inside. The anaesthetist took one look at him and his notes and refused, she was too concerned that he would go into arrest in the machine and they wouldn’t be able to get him out in time for CPR. So instead we carried him down to theatre for his pacemaker, the cardiac anaesthetist placed the defib pads on his chest whilst we kissed him goodbye, they honestly thought they would have to use them as they put him to sleep but in true Romeo style he handled the anaesthetic well and the surgery was a success. Whilst he was in theatre Boris made the announcement, full lockdown. Daddy was lucky to see him in PICU before being asked to leave the hospital, only one parent was allowed to stay.
4 years ago today we could have got a lot of answers if he had that MRI, it would have saved the pain and suffering of a lot more investigatory biopsies he had to have to rule out genetic conditions. To this day we still don’t know what was really going on on the inside and to be honest I don’t think we ever truly will 💔

In less than a month Lucia will turn 2, 2 months exactly after that Romeo would have been gone for 2 years and 4 months after that Lucia will be physically older than Romeo was. How is that even possible? My broken heart just can’t even comprehend it 💔

There’s something so special about your first born. All the excitement and not knowing what you’re truly about to embark on, both of you just figuring it out together day by day. That first night when you’re just left to it on minimal sleep already and exhaustion from giving birth wondering what you’re even supposed to do.
That newborn bubble when you finally get to take them home is the best feeling in the world and one that you will never truly experience again, all the newness and anticipation of what’s to come.
I’m so glad you were my first born Romeo, it definitely wasn’t easy but it was so worth it and some of my favourite memories are when it was just you and I figuring it out together day by day 🩵

Somehow it’s been two years since we were given the worst news any parent can hear. At that moment when you’re told there is nothing more that can be done for your child you start grieving, you have to start accepting that your future looks completely different and the person you love most won’t be a part of it much longer. Sometimes I wondered whether palliative care was a more gentle approach to his death, at least we knew it was coming. But, it’s still just as shocking when it happens. I don’t think you can every truly expect or accept that your child is dying. The anaesthesia of grief still hits just as hard and you wonder how people can still be carrying about their day when your whole world has imploded.
Everyday for 5 months we woke up wondering whether it would be Romeo’s last, although we were able to appreciate waking up another day to him we also had to watch his little body slowly shut down, the sparkle started to leave his eyes and his bones started protruding more and more from his tiny frame.
Living with an invisible timer looming over us, no one could tell us how long it would be, I don’t think they ever expected him to hold on for as long as he did.
The reality is that child loss is the most shocking and devastating thing that can ever happen and whether you have time to prepare for it or not you can never get your head around the seismic loss of losing the person you once created 💔

Happy Heavenly 4th Birthday Romeo 👼🏼

It’s so hard to imagine you as a 4 year old, I wonder how you would have changed, what new likes you would have. I will spend the rest of my life wondering. 2 birthdays here on earth and now 2 birthdays in heaven. Words can’t even describe how much I miss you and love you little man 🧡 Always & Forever 🧡 I hope all your angel friends are throwing you the biggest party up there 🤍

3 years ago today Romeo underwent his 4th surgery for his pacemaker at just shy of 1 years old. The bravest and strongest little boy I ever did meet💙 You’ve always made me the proudest Mummy!
