Life of Rhyme Living everyday life through poetry

Those halcyon times
Bright and sunny
Innocent and pure
Sweet like honey

Endless summers
Eternal days
Time without end
Sun ablaze

Glistening and flowing
Light as it plays
Gently stirring
Across the waves

Sounds of laughter
Echoing around
Rock pools and seaw**d
Smells and sounds

Shouts of triumph
Things caught and found
Enjoyment fulfilled
Fade into the background

Thoughts fly away
A seagull on high
Caught in the currents
Deep blue sky

Those halcyon days
Long gone, missed
Memories sweet
Loves first kiss

If you look
At me
What’s showing
What do you see?

If you notice me
My purple hair
A happy smile
Can you see what’s there

If you look hard
Into my face
The lines, the wrinkles
Do you see another place

If you focus inside
Do you see
The darkness lurking
Beneath the surface of me

If you cared to learn
About my pain
Would you know it
Could you give it a name

If you saw the dark
Would you turn away
Leave me alone
Or have something to say?

I hold that tar
Cover it in joy
Smother it in love
But its just a ploy

It wants to break out
To taint my life
To hurt and main
It cuts like a knife

Yummy

I could eat this
All day long
I feel so sad
When it’s gone

I sniff I smell
I drool and sigh
My mouth waters
I could die

It’s colourful
Oh so bright
So many flavours
A feast for my sight

I can make it
Or order on line
Sprinkle on toppings
To make it mine

The wafting steam
Tickles my nose
The anticipation
Grows and grows

What am I eating
Have you guessed
I love it so much
Pizza is the best!

Mothers Day
Hard to bear
Cards and flowers
Everywhere

Lets celebrate
The joy and fun
Who you were
The things you’ve done

Your amazing life
Achievements galore
Awards and recognition
Love at the core

Places you went
New talents learnt
All with friends
Shy you weren’t!

Ups and downs
There were quite a few
Dark times I had
You helped me through

Never forgotten
As we celebrate this day
Close to my heart
At peace, I pray.

remembering my mum x

I think about my mum
Almost every day
Things we did
Things we would say

I talk to her
Discuss lots of things
She’s there with me
Eventhough she has wings

I hear her voice
Look round to see
Know she’s there
Right next to me

We weren’t perfect
Ooo those rows
Loud and long
It just goes to show

I love my mum
Despite it all
And miss her still
Because of it all

Another year gone
Memories are mine
To share, to see
As the stars align

This time of year
So beautiful and bright
Tinged with sadness
Your star is bright

Who knew
What one word could do
One phrase, one thought
I didn’t think it through

One line in a song
A smell drifting by
The shape of a cloud
Up high in the sky

A well trod path
The sharpness of rain
The light filtering down
The call of a name

My body reacts
It feels and knows
Tears quietly drip
Emotions overflow

Still, I wouldn’t stop them
I’ll embrace and sigh
When the next memory
Floats on by

29/05/2023

It popped up on Facebook
We celebrated your life
Its been a year
Still cuts like a knife

Everyday thinking
What we had done
All those memories
Chats and fun

Some memories are sad
Things you can’t forget
Stupid innocence
Full of regret

Echoes of the past
Surround me and how
Lessons you taught
Still shape me now

The sound of your voice
The way you answered the phone
Can be heard in me
So I’m not alone

I’ll miss you always
But remember those days
When your love kept me going
In oh so many ways

27/05/2023

Would you ever be a mother
If you knew what it entailed
All the smiles and laughter
Feeling like you failed

Every milestone a triumph
Finding a new world
Those first few steps
The love you hold

Beautiful moments
Captured in time
Imprinted on my memory
All of them mine

Growing through the years
Baby, toddler, child
Child to teen and adult
Developing, running wild

Finding their feet
Opening new doors
Testing the boundaries
Finding new wars

Their minds are open
Soaking like a sponge
Learning new concepts
Willing to take the plunge

Hopes of future happiness
Resting on a dime
Everything a crisis
Constraints a crime

So doing your best
Is all that can be asked
Not failed but achieved
An independent adult, the best

In my bathroom
Right next to the sink
I have a fish tank
What do you think?

It’s a fascinating watch
As the sun shines through
Watching all the action
And everything they do

The w**d floats gently
Waving to and fro
Rippling in the tank
A life on slow

I could watch for hours
The action is intense
Little clusters here and there
Thrilling and immense

These tiny little things
No, not fish, you know
I have hundreds of snails
It’s a bloody good show!

Remembering

Its been a year
Too long too fast
Miss you still
Thoughts on the past

Little things
Sights and sounds
Bring me to tears
You’re not around

Out shopping I see
Things you would love
All shades of purple
An amethyst dove

Trying to remember
The good times, not the sad
Getting easier
The fun that we had

To Cornwall I’ll come
To reminisce and remember
Visit those memories
Not just that day in December

07/10/2022

A light went out
When you got ill
Couldn’t be saved
With just a pill

No idea
What to say
How to cope
What game to play

Tried to carry on
Bury my head
But there you are
My heart filled with dread

It’s been a while
Inside I ache and cry
For what is lost
What’s come to nigh

Little things
Joys and sadness
Spark those memories
In moments of darkness

So that light of yours
I guess it won’t be dimmed
As long as I remember
All those little things

24/08/2022

I looked in the mirror
What did I see
A shaggy dog
Looking back at me

This purple mass
Floating round my head
A soft halo
Just out of bed

Oh it must be done
No wind for me
Just a couple of curls
Tied right back you see

Held tight
No letting go
Tied up, sleeked back
Nothing on show

So please someone
Hear my plea
Cut these massive locks
So I can be free!
