Is your baby struggling to feed? 🤱

If you’re having trouble latching, or your baby’s movement is restricting feeding, then this could be a sign of muscle tension.

Here are some signs to look out for:

👶 Your baby prefers to face one way more than another

👶 Latching is painful

👶 You can’t get a good latch on one breast compared to the other

👶 Very short or very long feeds

👶 Your baby struggles to open their mouth widely/gape before the latch or its asymmetrical

Recognise any of these signs?

As a team of Pediatric Osteopaths, we would recommend seeing an IBCLC (Lactation Consultant) if you have any feeding difficulties.

You may find one working in your hospital team or as part of your local feeding support team.

More information may be available in your baby’s red book or any leaflets your health visitor gave you.

This is because breastfeeding issues can be complex, and IBCLCs study for years to be able to give you a diagnosis and management plan for feeding.

Many lactation consultants have completed CPD training to look out for muscle tension patterns.

If you feel, or you’re told, your baby has movement tensions or restrictions – then a musculoskeletal assessment from a Paediatric Osteopath – like one of our team! – can help.

Book in an Initial Consultation for a full musculoskeletal assessment with us at one of our clinics. We’re based in Battersea, Surbiton and South Wimbledon.

Just message us here, head to our website, or call us on 020 7206 2625 to find a time to suit you.

So many new parents come to us with that gut feeling — that their baby’s just not quite comfortable in their little body yet.

Here’s what one lovely mum had to say after bringing her baby in for treatment with Laura:

🍼 “I took my young baby to see Laura as he was very tense, still quite curled up and struggling with gas/digestion. She worked wonders with him and was able to explain his postural and neck issues that I would never have been aware of. Since the treatment he has been so much happier and more relaxed and we have had a lot more sleep! Laura has a wonderful way with babies and is so gentle yet effective. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to help their baby!”

Osteopathy for babies is gentle, safe, and tailored to their unique needs. We work with the body to ease tension, support digestion, and help babies settle more easily — so you both get a little more calm (and hopefully more sleep, too).

Has your dentist or Myofunctional therapist recommended Osteopathy for you or your child?
It’s the whole body approach to oral health and optimised breathing.
Here are some of the areas we treat to support optimal growth and development.

Here’s the video and a caption- not sure if the caption is a bit long though - how much did you want me to include?

Come and chat scar therapy with me 🤍

What doWhat do people come to see you for?
Usually symptoms like pulling, tightness, numbness, itching, sensitivity or feeling restricted around the scar or surrounding areas. Some people also notice symptoms affecting nearby structures too — for example after a C-section this can sometimes include tension through the abdomen, hips or lower back, or issues linked to bowel and bladder function.

What sort of scars do you see in clinic?
At the moment I’m mainly seeing C-section scars, but I’m really looking forward to treating more mastectomy, burn, post joint replacement and abdominal surgery scars too. Since I Completed My Scar Therapy practitioner course my scope has expanded to scars all over the body.

What do you do to treat them?
Treatment is always really gentle and tailored to the individual. I might use scar massage, stretching, desensitisation work, guided breathing techniques and hands-on treatment to help the tissues move and feel more comfortable.

What results do patients report?
People often say they feel less restricted, more comfortable in movement and have a better understanding of their scar and symptoms by the end of treatment.

Do I use your osteopathy techniques as well?
Definitely — I love combining scar therapy with osteopathy because it means I can look at how the scar may be affecting the body as a whole, not just the scar itself. Often this makes a world of a difference to how the scar feels overall.

A mum of a 2 week old baby came into clinic today for a postnatal check up. She had low back pain which meant she couldn’t lie down comfortably.

A full case history and Osteopathic examination later and we found that her right shoulder girdle was completely locked up. The muscles really tight, the joints really restricted.

This meant that her ribs weren’t moving properly; it meant that her deep core wasn’t engaging; it meant that her pelvis was being pulled by tight muscles on the right, it meant that her lumbar spine couldn’t get out of that pregnancy posture she held for so long before the birth.

And where had the shoulder injury come from? We traced it back to the birth!! During her labour had been hanging her weight through her shoulder for hours.

Once we got that moving she left the clinic saying that she felt like a new person.

The moral of the story is - Osteopathy can help you find the root cause of your pain. We might treat your shoulder to ease your back pain.

Oh And another - all mums should have a postnatal check up with a Women’s Health Osteopath or Physiotherapist 💕

Osteopathy can transform your health by easing pain, improving mobility, and helping your body heal naturally.

It’s a game-changer for everything from stress and posture issues to chronic pain, keeping you feeling strong and balanced.

And Gaby, one of our osteopaths, knows this more than most!

We recently welcomed her back to the clinic – and she shared with us her rather eventful journey to becoming an osteopath…

“I’ve always been interested in osteopathy - I was treated by osteopaths throughout my childhood and adolescence.

But after my first degree I decided I really wanted to travel, so I became a ski instructor and followed the snow around the world, living between New Zealand and America for a few years.

It was only after a nasty accident where I came home to recover, and an osteopath basically put me back together that I felt I really wanted to be able to do that for someone and give back to people.

What he did really helped me, and I wanted to help others fulfil or maintain whatever they wanted to do with their lives, so I decided to retrain and pursue this as a career.”

Feel the life-changing power of osteopathy for yourself with Gaby.

She is now available for visceral osteopathy at our clinics at Therapy Spaces – Surbiton and Therapy Spaces – Wimbledon, for patients of all ages.

Book your appointment with Gaby. Just message us here, head to our website, or call us on 020 7206 2625.

We can promise you that our team is passionate, kind, knowledgeable, thoughtful and highly skilled.

We’re careful to hire only the very best osteopaths, and many of our team continue their professional development so they can constantly optimise the care they provide.

In our recent patient survey, we were delighted to see that 94%* of patients rated their relationship with their osteopath as 5 out of 5, reflecting how listened to, supported and trusted they felt during their appointment.

This is exactly how we want every patient to leave a session - feeling heard, cared for and confident they were in safe hands.

And for completeness: the remaining respondents rated their experience 4 out of 5.

*Based on feedback from 50 patients who completed a questionnaire following their appointment.
