Is your baby struggling to feed? 🤱
If you’re having trouble latching, or your baby’s movement is restricting feeding, then this could be a sign of muscle tension.
Here are some signs to look out for:
👶 Your baby prefers to face one way more than another
👶 Latching is painful
👶 You can’t get a good latch on one breast compared to the other
👶 Very short or very long feeds
👶 Your baby struggles to open their mouth widely/gape before the latch or its asymmetrical
Recognise any of these signs?
As a team of Pediatric Osteopaths, we would recommend seeing an IBCLC (Lactation Consultant) if you have any feeding difficulties.
You may find one working in your hospital team or as part of your local feeding support team.
More information may be available in your baby’s red book or any leaflets your health visitor gave you.
This is because breastfeeding issues can be complex, and IBCLCs study for years to be able to give you a diagnosis and management plan for feeding.
Many lactation consultants have completed CPD training to look out for muscle tension patterns.
If you feel, or you’re told, your baby has movement tensions or restrictions – then a musculoskeletal assessment from a Paediatric Osteopath – like one of our team! – can help.
Book in an Initial Consultation for a full musculoskeletal assessment with us at one of our clinics. We’re based in Battersea, Surbiton and South Wimbledon.
