Ever “tried and failed” at exercise? 🙋🏻‍♀️There’s many reasons why someone’s workout routine doesn’t “stick”, such as overdoing it too soon, choosing a workout you don’t enjoy or exercising just to lose weight.

While it’s important to learn from our experience, noticing positive signs can be just as powerful. They show us we’re on the right track when it comes to making exercise a regular in our routine, without too much effort or motivation.

So here are 10 major signs that predict we’ll probably be able to maintain our current exercise routine for the long haul! And isn’t that what it’s really about? 🙂

Which signs do you relate to the most? Comment below! ⬇️

DO MEAL PLANS WORK?

💚In my practice I guide clients through building sustainable healthy eating habits FOR LIFE, not only to reach a short-term goal. I might create a meal plan for inspiration rather than a rule & give plenty alternatives for swaps to add some flexibility to meals.

💚Instead, I suggest resorting to my meal building guide because it gives much more freedom and confidence to choose what/how much to eat at any given day.

Why might meal plans not work?

➡️You might not feel like eating what’s on the menu that day
👂You shouldn’t feel like your meals are pre-determined and that you can’t listen to your body’s cues

➡️Meal plans don’t account for social events
Following a set meal plan means you might feel perplexed as to what to eat when going to a restaurant/a family gathering

➡️It might be time-consuming/inconvenient
🛒Making sure you have all the ingredients for new recipes can be fiddly & expensive, as well as cooking in a totally new way. I suggest sticking to what you’re used to & make adjustments as necessary

➡️Our taste preferences vary
🧍🏽🧍‍♀️🧍🏻‍♂️Our culture, background, time, habits (to name a few) influence the way we cook. Just a simple thing like your choice of spices might determine how palatable you find a dish to be

➡️Your hunger levels aren’t consistent
🍝We don’t always need the same amount of food, this will largely vary from day to day

➡️It might be too ambitious
👨🏻‍🍳Cooking from scratch might be too big of a stretch from their starting point. Everyone’s starting point is different

➡️It might be unsustainable
🤔Ask yourself – could you stick to a meal plan for the rest of your life?

💚Sure, meal plans can work for some for a period of time, but they don’t guarantee one to create sustainable eating habits. You need to understand food & its composition (the basics) so that you can have the confidence & freedom to put the right foods on your plate wherever you are. You also need to learn to trust yourself (this can be difficult) & listen to your body.

💚With the right guidance you are making it easier for yourself to achieve this.

Hey!👋☺️ Welcome to Proper Plant Nutrition run by myself, Špela (Shpe-la). I’m a Registered associate nutritionist based in 📍Brixton, London!

🍉I created this page about 5 years ago purely to share what I eat. My love of food started & continued on from my very early years. Somehow conversations with me always steer in the direction of food😋🍒🥑

🎓Since then, a lot has changed – I made a career change & got myself an MSc in Global Public Health Nutrition from the University of Westminster. I went from working as a sales executive to becoming a nutritionist!🎉
It was a big leap but so worth it! Would encourage anyone to follow their passion, even if it means being a little uncomfortable for a while😅

🍇I figured it was time to move on from a foodie account to a more professional account!!

🍏Now my aim is to provide you with evidence-based nutrition information & advice, while incorporating own-lived experience into the mix.

🌱I want to get my audience excited about moving towards a whole-food, plant-based diet, WHATEVER THAT MEANS FOR YOU❗️It has never been more important to shift towards plant-based eating for the good of our own health, and the health of the planet. Every person can do this in a way that suits them and their lifestyle. I can help!😁

🤓I am fully committed to never stop learning. I am constantly discovering new areas of interest in nutrition!

🌍Aside from this, I love travelling (in normal times!) –  I’ve been to New York (love the NYC vibe), South Korea, Turkey and many European countries including a year in Berlin (my German is rusty but I get by😬)

🚲My favourite way of getting around London is by bike, and I’m currently learning to be a confident rollerblader (wish me luck!🤩)

🎶I enjoy live acoustic music (my favourite is jazz), it fills me up with so much joy. I’d love to follow the music trails in the USA one day.

So, that’s me in one caption … Thanks for the follow & I hope you enjoy my page!☺️

💦HEALTHY HYDRATION TIPS!🥤 We’re in for another hot day in the UK🥵 so here’s my advice for healthy hydration. Hope you find it useful!
💦Drinking enough water is essential for our bodies to function properly (after all, we’re made up of 50-80%💧!)
💦Water is lost in urine, sweat & through breathing & needs to be replenished through drinks & food
💦Water has many functions in the body:
- Regulates our temperature
- Transports nutrients in the blood
- Removes waste products in urine (via kidneys) & sweating
- Helps prevent constipation
- Protects organs & tissues
- Lubricates & cushions the joints
❗️Our kidneys play a key role in fluid balance regulation (temporarily excrete less 💦 during dehydration to keep sufficient blood flow to vital organs).
⚠️It’s important dehydration doesn’t last long (build-up of wastes & toxins can cause kidney damage)
✅The Eatwell Guide suggest we drink 6-8 glasses of 💦 a day➡️this amount increases in hot climates☀️, during physically activity🏃🏻‍♀️ & during diarrhoea/vomiting🤢!
⚠️Thirst is already a sign of dehydration! Tip: drink BEFORE you start feeling thirsty👍🏻
🧐Other signs to look out for: dry mouth, dark colour urine (& not much of it), dizziness, loss of concentration/appetite, irritability, headache🤯
🥤Recommended drinks for hydration:
- Water (healthiest choice✔️)
- Tea/coffee (best unsweetened & in moderate amounts)
- Milk/milk replacements (low fat)
- Fruit juices/smoothies (max 150ml/day due to sugar content & lack of fibre)
- Soft drinks (without added sugar)
- Sports drinks (only with high intensity training)
👀Alcohol doesn’t count towards our daily water intake!
🍉Most hydrating foods (20% of 💧comes from food):
- Fruits/veg with high water content: watermelon, strawberries, melon, cucumber, celery, lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, pak choi, broccoli
- Foods with added water: soups & stews🍵
🤗Tips for drinking more water:
- Carry around a water bottle
- Order water with meals
- Have your 5-a-day
- Add a citrus🍋 to your water for taste
- Set a reminder on your 📱 to drink every hour & track your intake via app
- Drink first thing in the morning & before bed
