What about a cuppa CBD?
Hot CBD drinks – teas coffees and herbal ‘teas’ – are either teas and coffees with added CBD or, in
the case of the herbal drinks, usually herbal infusions which include h**p. H**p on its own will
make a drink that is earthy and aromatic. It’s something of an acquired taste, reminiscent of the
South American drink Mate (although that contains caffeine), but can be refreshing if not left to
steep for too long. As a herbal, infusion h**p works well with other herbals, like mint, camomile
and ginger, as well as chocolate and chai flavouring.

All you ever wanted to know about Love Bites…
At The H**pire we’re always curious and always on the lookout for great products. But we’re also quite fussy, so you can imagine our delight when we were introduced to Love Bites, healthy and nutritious snacks hand made in Norwich. These are amazing treats, and we’ve secured a select
supply with CBD. From a city already famous for great mustard, a football team and Alan Partridge, we think this is quite a coup! And even better, we also managed to get an interview with Love Bites’ owner, Meg.
What made you make Love Bites?
I started making Love Bites when I lived in Sydney, Australia. I had two young kids, and we needed a
healthy after school snack that wasn’t full of sugar but still had a good kick of energy. I need to eat
little and often and so these were the perfect answer, a naturally delicious snack without the
nasties.
This kind of snack is quite common there, where lots of people are very health conscious. When we
moved back to the UK, there was nothing like a Love Bite that was as fresh and as tasty, so I started
making them to sell here in Norwich…it’s grown from there. In Australia, they’re usually called ‘Bliss
Balls’ but Love Bites seemed right for the UK – they’re just a bite, and people love them!
Is it a treat or daily product?
Both! Love Bites can be a treat, but because they are healthy and contain no refined sugar, you can
eat them every day. They are also Vegan, GF and Dairy-free, and suitable for people with diabetes. The main ingredients are dates; almonds, or dates; peanuts, then depending on the flavour I add natural ingredients like lemon or orange zest, pistachios, coconut and freeze-dried raspberries - all healthy natural ingredients.
When I make CBD Love Bites, I add Milagro CBD oil into the mixture, which means people can take their CBD without the bitter taste.
How does your best friend rate Love Bites?
My best friend loves them and is my guinea pig for tasting new flavours. There is always a constant supply on her desk – and she has to guard the new testers, especially carefully.
Tell us a lovely short Love Bites story?
The feedback I get is excellent and the fact that they keep selling tells me I’m doing something right. But
the best story that comes to mind is my friend Beth, who left my house with a bag of Love Bites that
was meant to last her several days. Ten minutes later she sent me a message “I’ve just arrived at pre-
school and I’ve eaten 5 already!” As far as I know, she holds the record!
Another thing I love is the way that Love Bites keep me connected and bring me, new friends. Love
Bites have become popular in many cafes and shops in and around the city. When I can, I deliver on
my mums’ old bike and I love the feeling of creating a network of friends throughout my city as I
deliver Love Bites to my lovely customers.

When so many different celebrities talk about CBD, it can’t just be a PR stunt.

William Shatner and Jennifer Aniston takes CBD oil for joint pain; Kim Kardashian West threw a CBD-

themed baby shower, but perhaps more importantly has talked about how she uses CDB to re-

centre when feeling overwhelmed and to aid sleep. Gwyneth Paltrow’s wellness brand, Goop,

includes CBD products in its range and actor Dakota Johnson says she uses it to help her sleep more

easily on long flights. Michael J Fox uses CBD to alleviate the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease and

Tom Hanks started to use CBD to create calm when feeling anxious and subsequently noted the way

it also soothed aches and pains. Mantel Williams (search for him online – he has too many

achievements to list here!) became involved with CBD after discovering medical cannabis help

manage pain from his MS.

Morgan Freeman uses it for pain relief after developing fibromyalgia from a road accident; Olivia

Newton John is an outspoken advocate of medical ma*****na after her experience of treatment for,

and the after-effects of, breast cancer. Jay-Z has partnered with the Californian company Calvia to

promote a wide range of CBD products and actor and singer Kristen Bell uses CBD oil to manage

anxiety and to help her re-centre.

Equally famous is Whoopi Goldberg who, along with Maya Elizabeth co-founded Whoopi&Maya,

specialising in CBD and cannabis-infused bath and body products for women’s wellbeing including a

response to menstrual pain. Although the two went their separate ways, the message was clear: CBD

and medical ma*****na have a legitimate and important part to play in wellbeing and the

management of pain, anxiety and insomnia, to name but a few experiences most of us understand.

*In the UK, CBD, including CBD isolate with THC levels of less than 0.2%, is categorised as a food supplement. It

cannot be sold as a medicine and if you are considering using CBD instead of or alongside prescription

medicines, you should consult your medical specialist first. It’s illegal to purchase CBD of greater THC content

than this – it must be prescribed.
