Somia Nervous System Retraining & Recovery from Chronic Symptoms and Illnesses

31/08/2026

When you consistently override what you feel, your nervous system doesn’t forget. Emotions are not just thoughts. They are physiological events. Anger mobilizes energy. Sadness slows you down. Fear prepares you to protect yourself. When those responses are blocked, the activation stays in the body.

Unprocessed stress then shows up as muscle tension, digestive issues, headaches, fatigue, anxiety, sleep disruption, and chronic pain. Your body absorbs what your mind refuses to acknowledge.

Pushing through can work in the short term. It helps you meet deadlines, care for others, and maintain stability. But if it becomes your default, your own needs are never met.

Pretending you’re fine doesn’t convince your physiology. It just delays the bill.

The body keeps score of what you suppress and eventually, it asks to be heard.

This is exactly the kind of pattern we work with inside the Nervous System Recovery Pathway.

We help you stabilize your system, retrain the responses keeping symptoms stuck, and build the capacity to feel what your body has been holding without being overwhelmed by it.

A limit can feel simple in your mind and still feel threatening in your body.

You know you need to say no, ask for space, leave early or stop answering. But the moment you imagine saying it, your system starts preparing for the reaction. Will they be upset? Will they understand? Will they think you are selfish? Will you have to explain every detail before your limit feels acceptable?

That pressure often comes from a nervous system that learned boundaries were only safe when they could be justified perfectly.

So you explain, over-explain, soften, apologize, and make sure the other person feels okay before you let yourself honor what your body already knows.

For many people with mystery symptoms, this is part of the same pattern underneath chronic fatigue, pain, digestive issues, immune flares, POTS, MCAS, Long COVID, anxiety, and brain fog. Your body is not only reacting to food, sleep, hormones, or movement. It is also reacting to years of overriding your own limits to stay connected, understood, or safe.

A regulated body does not need every limit to become a courtroom case.

It needs practice feeling that a limit can be real even when someone else does not like it.

This is one of the patterns we unpack inside our masterclass, Nervous System Retraining for Chronic Symptoms: And Why Everything You’ve Tried Hasn’t Worked.

Inside the replay, you’ll learn why chronic symptoms can continue even when you’re doing everything “right,” what nervous system retraining actually means, how brain retraining and body-based work fit together, and how to work with your nervous system in everyday life through a guided practice.

You feel anger, and immediately tell yourself you are overreacting. You feel sadness, and remind yourself other people have it worse. You feel resentment, and try to talk yourself into gratitude. You feel fear, and criticize yourself for not being stronger. But the judgment becomes another layer of stress for your body to carry.

An emotion needs space to move. When you shame yourself for having it, your nervous system learns that the feeling itself is dangerous, and the reaction stays trapped inside the body instead of completing.

The question to ask is:

“What emotion has my body been holding because I never let it be allowed?”

Because symptoms are not always only about food, sleep, hormones, or movement. For many people, they are also connected to the emotions their nervous system never got to process without fear, judgment, or self-criticism.

This is exactly what we unpack inside our masterclass, Nervous System Retraining for Chronic Symptoms: And Why Everything You’ve Tried Hasn’t Worked.

Why is it that some people do the practices, learn the tools, understand the nervous system, and still feel like their body keeps returning to the same symptoms?

At Somia, we help people understand why symptoms that look separate, like chronic fatigue, chronic pain, digestive issues, immune flares, POTS, MCAS, Long COVID, anxiety, and brain fog, can all be connected to the same overwhelmed nervous system.

And we see this often in people who are trying to regulate while staying in a life their body keeps reading as unsafe, exhausting, lonely, pressured, or misaligned.

You can do the breathing practice, take the walk, change your thoughts, and repeat the phrases. But if the rest of your life keeps asking you to ignore your limits, swallow your needs, stay in relationships that drain you, work beyond your capacity, or perform a role that feels impossible to keep carrying, your body is still receiving the message that it has to survive.

The question to ask is:

“What parts of my life keep teaching my body that it cannot fully recover here?”

Because nervous system retraining is not only about learning practices. It is also about understanding the patterns, environments, relationships, and daily pressures that keep your system repeating the same survival response.

This is exactly what we unpack inside our masterclass, Nervous System Retraining for Chronic Symptoms: And Why Everything You’ve Tried Hasn’t Worked.

Inside the replay, you’ll learn why chronic symptoms can continue even when you’re doing everything “right,” what nervous system retraining actually means, how brain retraining and body-based work fit together, and how to work with your nervous system in everyday life through a guided practice.

Brain retraining can help you heal because your brain has learned to predict danger before danger is actually happening.

You do an activity. A symptom shows up. Fear rises. You start monitoring your body. The next time you try, your brain remembers the crash and prepares your system for the same response again.

That is how activity, fear, symptoms, and crashes become a learned loop.

Brain retraining helps interrupt that loop in real time, but recovery does not stop there.

Inside the Nervous System Recovery Pathway, we guide you through the next layers too: stabilizing your system, reconditioning the things your brain and body have learned to fear, and building the capacity to live your life without every step forward triggering the same setback.

You follow a clear pathway with weekly training, coaching, community, somatic support, and ongoing guidance.

Why is it that some people can feel an emotion, express it, and move through it, while others stay calm on the outside and end up with symptoms that seem to come from nowhere?

There is a connection here that many people with mystery illness never get shown.

At Somia, we help people understand why chronic fatigue, chronic pain, digestive issues, immune flares, POTS, MCAS, Long COVID, anxiety, and symptoms that look separate can all be connected to the same overwhelmed nervous system.

And we see this often in people who learned to stay composed no matter what they were feeling.

You do not yell, cry or say how angry you are. You keep your voice steady, explain yourself carefully, and make the emotion easier for everyone else to be around. But the reaction still has to go somewhere. When emotion cannot move through expression, it can show up as tension, fatigue, pain, gut issues, shutdown, flares, or the heavy feeling of carrying something your body never got to complete.

The question to ask is:

“Am I actually regulated, or have I just learned how to hide the reaction?”

Because holding it together is not the same as helping your nervous system feel safe.

This is one of the connections we unpacked inside our masterclass, Nervous System Retraining for Chronic Symptoms.

Why is it that one person can have one symptom and recover, while someone else keeps cycling through anxiety, fatigue, brain fog, insomnia, digestive issues, chronic pain, heart racing, and overwhelm?

There is usually a deeper pattern underneath.

At Somia, we help people with mystery symptoms understand why symptoms that look separate can all be connected to the same overwhelmed nervous system.

And this is exactly what we unpacked inside our free masterclass, Nervous System Retraining for Chronic Symptoms.

The connection is this: your symptoms m are different signals from a body that has been stuck in survival for too long.

The question to ask is:

“Are these symptoms separate problems, or are they different expressions of the same nervous system pattern?”

Because when you understand the pattern underneath, recovery starts to make more sense.

Maybe you learned early that needing help made life harder. Your needs were ignored, minimized, mocked, or met with frustration, so being “fine” became the safest option.

You became the person who handles everything.

You figure it out alone, wait until you are completely overwhelmed before saying anything, or minimize what you are feeling because you do not want anyone to feel burdened by your pain.

That pattern may have helped you adapt then, but after years of living this way, your nervous system can begin treating support as unfamiliar, risky, or something you have to earn. And this is where chronic symptoms start to make more sense.

A body that has spent years carrying everything alone is often a body that has been practicing survival for years. The stress response keeps running and eventually, the body begins expressing what you have been trying so hard to hold together.

This is one of the patterns that can keep people stuck in chronic fatigue, pain, anxiety, histamine issues, POTS, crashes, gut issues, and other symptoms that seem impossible to explain.

Inside the free masterclass replay, we break down the mechanism that keeps your body stuck in symptoms, why so many chronic conditions overlap, and what has to shift so your nervous system can stop living in protection.

There is also a special gift inside for everyone who watches.

Most people are taught to look at inflammation through the lens of food.
But it doesn't always explain why your body still feels inflamed, reactive, exhausted, or stuck.

Maybe you've cleaned up your diet, removed triggers, added supplements, avoided inflammatory foods, and done everything you can to support your body from the outside.

And your symptoms still keep returning.

Your nervous system is learning from much more than what's on your plate. The pressure you put on yourself. The emotions you swallow. The life you're trying to survive instead of fully live.

Your body doesn't experience food separately from the rest of your life. It responds to the whole picture.

Creating a different pattern means giving your nervous system repeated experiences that show it life is no longer something it has to defend against.

Nourishment is part of that picture. So are connection, purpose, pleasure, creativity, safety, and moments when your body experiences something other than pressure.

That's the connection many people miss when they're trying to heal through food alone.

Inside our free live masterclass last week, we showed you what may be missing from nervous system retraining, why symptoms can keep returning, and how to work with your nervous system in everyday life.
