Does it hurt? Let’s talk honestly about needles.

It is the number one question I get asked during consultations in my Teddington clinic, and it is a completely valid fear. Medical aesthetic treatments do not have to be a painful experience.

Case study: M-Shape lips 👄 and why a “one-size-fits-all” approach fails complex lip anatomy

This patient wanted fuller, hydrated lips but was cautious about losing her natural lip shape.

In case, this patient has an M-shape lip -the centre of the lips (Cupids bow and tubercle) is predominantly highlighted, and the sides are quite thin, creating an “M” lip shape.

Treating an M-shape is slightly tricky because if an injector simply drops filler along the entire border, the natural central dip gets exaggerated, or worse, the product migrates into the upper skin, causing a puffy appearance.

In this case, I placed micro-droplets of flexible filler into the sides of the upper lip to bridge the gap. I then placed a little filler in the lower lip to balanced the upper and lower lip.

The result?…
The “M” shape is beautifully softened and supported, not completely erased.

This is why there’s no one size that fits all when it comes to aesthetics.

“Barbie Bot*x” was trending a year or so ago - a treatment that relaxes the trapezius muscles, resulting in an elongated neck with slimmer shoulders and thus, in theory, giving you a “swan neck” or “Barbie neck” appearance.

But what does the treatment actually do and why do I refuse to label the treatment as the “Barbie Bot*x”?

Treating the Trapezius muscle with muscle relaxant injections = medical rather than cosmetic. Quite often this treatment is performed in conjunction with Masseter relaxant injections because when clenching, patients frequently carry tension in the trapezius (shoulder) muscles too. As a result, you can experience pain, headaches, sore shoulders, neck pain, jaw pain. Muscle relaxant injections can significantly improve these symptoms IF it’s the right treatment for you.

It is crucial that you have a consultation before having this treatment - a thorough assessment and discussion must be completed to ensure you’re suitable! But if you are, then it can reduce symptoms and tension. And yes… it can slim the muscles if they are bulky, providing you with “dropped shoulders”, indirectly elongating the neck. A cosmetic bonus to the treatment 😉💉

What is wrinkle softening treatment?

It’s a treatment which reduces the muscle activity eg the frown forehead or smile lines around the eyes. It smoothens these lines helping you look less angry and tired and leaves you with refreshed smoother looking skin

Will I look fake?

No! Dr Reena always aims to provide natural looking results, so rather than changing your appearance you look simply look well rested, refreshed and the best version of yourself!
How long does it last?

This depends on each individual, but on average it can last anywhere between 3-6 months.

Does it hurt?

It’s very tolerable! Some say they barely feel it, others say it’s like squeezing a pimple.

Is everyone suitable?

A consultation must be completed including going through your medical history, any medication you’re on, allergies, and a full face assessment to see if you’re suitable and if so, if it’s the best treatment option for you.

There is nothing more frustrating than feeling vibrant and happy, only for the corners of your mouth to give the impression that you are sad or tired.
