What makes mannose different from other sugars?
A review published in The FEBS Journal examines mannose metabolism, including its role in glycosylation and the way different cells process mannose.
The review also explores experimental research into mannose and cancer cell metabolism, including the role of the enzyme mannose phosphate isomerase (MPI). Importantly, these findings are primarily based on laboratory and animal studies, so further research is needed to understand their relevance to humans.
Mannose is also part of Dr. Coy’s Sugar Family, reflecting the different biological roles that individual sugars can have.
