πŸŽ₯ VIDEO: Community testimonial #4 β€” the final word from our extraordinary Open Day https://youtu.be/Bq5HRDeDl60

From Farooq's opening speech on Day 1 to this final community testimonial from Ruth today β€” this campaign has been a celebration of one of the most special days in DodgyTickers' history.

Our first ever Community Open Day. And β€” based on everything you've told us β€” far from the last.

The community has spoken: they want us back next year.

To everyone who has been part of this campaign β€” watching, sharing, commenting, messaging us β€” thank you.

As Diabetes Week 2026 comes to an end β€” we want you to know: the door is always open. πŸ’™

This week we've shared stories from our community. People living with diabetes, pre-diabetes, and heart conditions who found something they didn't expect: a team that gets it.

Today it's Fiona’s turn. Watch her story. https://youtu.be/5xwFTEGyh6o?is=TuYIh_Mxqbf1B1Q8

DodgyTickers is not just for people with heart conditions. We are a programme for anyone living with a long-term condition who wants to get active in a way that's safe, fun, and sociable. That absolutely includes you if you're managing diabetes.

And here's the thing β€” it works. Exercise has real benefits for blood sugar management, cardiovascular health, and mental wellbeing. Our members aren't just enjoying themselves. They're helping their health.

You don't need to be fit. You don't need to be an athlete. You just need to turn up to have fun!

We operate across east London and Essex β€” open to all, no boundaries.

🌟 Our Alfresco Health Fair was one of the things we're most proud of from our Open Day.

And here's what it looked like β€” from another partner who was right in the middle of it.

Many organisations from across east London and Essex gave up their time to come and connect with our community. And the conversations they had on that day β€” with residents who didn't know their services existed, or didn't know how to access them β€” could genuinely change lives.

This is what prevention looks like when you do it as a community, not as a system.

πŸ’¬ Did you visit any of the stalls at our Health Fair? Which organisation did you connect with? Tell us in the comments! πŸ‘‡

For many people living with diabetes, one of the biggest challenges isn’t knowing what they should doβ€”it’s finding the confidence, support and motivation to keep doing it.

That’s where community matters.

This Diabetes Awareness Week we’re highlighting another DodgyTickers member whose story demonstrates the power of staying active alongside people who understand your journey.

Regular physical activity can help improve blood sugar control, support weight management, improve mental wellbeing and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Our sessions are designed to be inclusive, supportive and accessible, regardless of fitness level or experience.

No pressure. No judgement. Just encouragement, friendship and a shared commitment to improving health.

At our Open Day last month, something happened on the pitch that perfectly captures what DodgyTickers is all about.

Community members who'd come for a blood pressure check ended up playing football.
VCSE partners who'd come to run stalls ended up playing football.
Total strangers ended up on the same team.

And one person β€” who had never kicked a ball in their entire life β€” stepped onto the pitch for the first time.

By the end of the session, they'd scored a goal and announced they were going to take up football.

If that doesn't make you smile, nothing will. 😭❀️

Our version of football is played at a gentle pace. Non contact. No special kit. No fitness requirement. Just fun, movement and community β€” and it's one of the best things you can do for your heart.

πŸ’¬ Tag someone who needs to try our football! πŸ‘‡

What we love about this one is the honesty. The simplicity. The fact that this person came along not quite knowing what to expect β€” and left feeling something had shifted.

That shift is what DodgyTickers is all about. Not dramatic. Not clinical. Just human, joyful, community-powered health.

We work across east London and Essex. Our programme is completely free. And you don't need any football experience, any fitness level or any referral to join us.

🩺 It's Diabetes Week 2026 β€” and this year's theme is Strike Out Stigma.

8 out of 10 people with diabetes say they've faced blame, judgement or negative attitudes because of their condition. That's not okay. And at DodgyTickers, it's never been the way we do things.

We're a community health programme for anyone living with cardiovascular conditions, or other health conditions such as diabetes, pre-diabetes, or anyone over 50 who just wants to stay active and feel good. No judgement. No barriers. Just fun, exercise, friendship, and real support.

πŸ‘‡ Watch Caroline share her story. We think you'll recognise yourself β€” or someone you love β€” in what they say. https://youtu.be/2tB8-W0Qo64?feature=shared

Moving regularly makes a real difference if you're managing diabetes. It helps control blood sugar, reduces your risk of heart disease, and lifts your mood. And doing it with people who understand what you're going through? That makes it stick.

Diabetes Week runs 8–14 June. Whether you've been living with diabetes for years, or you've recently had a pre-diabetes warning from your GP β€” you're welcome here.

❀️ Quick but important question: When did you last have your blood pressure checked?

If your answer is 'I can't remember' β€” or 'never' β€” you're not alone. But it matters more than you might think.

High blood pressure is known as the 'silent killer.' There are rarely any symptoms. Millions of people across the UK are living with it right now without knowing.

At our Open Day last month, we offered free blood pressure checks to everyone who attended.

πŸŽ₯ VIDEO: https://youtu.be/Vm_yOIAJBek

Some of the people who got checked hadn't been checked in years. For some, what they found out led directly to a conversation with their GP. That is the power of access. That is the power of meeting people where they are.

πŸ’¬ Drop a comment β€” when was YOUR last blood pressure check? πŸ‘‡
