Today we met with Clive Efford, Chair of the APPG on Contaminated Blood and Haemophilia, and Lord Pack to discuss ways in which parliamentarians can continue to hold Government to account in delivering a faster compensation scheme and justice for all infected blood victims.

We know that Baroness Twycross, the Minister responsible for infected blood, is considering a number of changes to how the scheme works which would speed up delivery of compensation to all victims.

Our next Information and Support Group for the Infected Blood Community will be held on Monday 12 October from 5pm – 6.30pm.

This is a safe, friendly, informal and confidential space to meet with others infected and affected in the community, ask questions, share experiences and keep up to date with news around the Infected Blood Inquiry, the payment schemes and compensation.

Everyone from the infected/ affected community is welcome to join.

PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to attend, you will need to register directly by emailing [email protected] to confirm a place, as there is a maximum limit of 12 per group.

Last week Baroness Twycross, the new Minister responsible for infected blood, came to our offices to discuss the issues so many of you are facing. We gave her a duplicate book of the handwritten letters you wrote to Andy Burnham so she could read the unforgiveable toll it has taken on you all.

We spoke about delays with compensation, intolerable evidence burdens claims are being subjected to, injustices within the regulations and the wider ways in which the community want the Government held accountable so this can never happen again.

She accepted the huge challenges many of you are facing and we spoke about practical solutions she could put in place with IBCA to make it easier to claim.

She said she had received a large number of letters from MPs raising your concerns so your pressure is working! Please keep writing to your MP and ask them to write to the Minister - the more she receives, the more likely she is to act.

We won't stop fighting for the justice you all deserve.

Last week, alongside BDP - Bristol Drugs Project, we brought people from across harm reduction together for the National Harm Reduction Summit.

Over the course of the Summit, we heard from people working across the sector, people with lived experience and others involved in harm reduction about where things stand now, what isn't working, and what needs to change.

We want to give a massive thanks to everyone who attended and made it a truly brilliant couple of days. Keep an eye on our and BDP’s channels for more follow-up, including a write-up covering the valuable discussions that were had!

Our next online support group session for those specifically in the “affected” community (partners, parents, children, siblings and carers of those infected with hepatitis B, C or HIV through blood and blood products) will be held on Monday 28 September from 5-6.30pm.

This group provides a safe, friendly and confidential space for all those in the “affected” community to come together, feel connected and share their experiences, perspectives and get support and information.
