It was an honour to see so many of you from the infected blood community at the protest yesterday.

Thank you to every single one of you who wrote a letter to give to Andy Burnham. We know they weren't easy to write. We handed them in to Downing Street yesterday with representatives from the community, MPs and Peers. We will not stop until we secure a meeting with the Prime Minister.

We are working with a newspaper on a story about people struggling to claim compensation because of IBCA's requirements to provide medical or administrative records which never existed or have been destroyed.

Earlier this year, our Birmingham team acquired a van to operate a mobile service focused on supplying needles and syringes.

This morning, our Helpline and Information Support Service Manager, Sam, made an appearance on BBC Radio 4 to discuss how some individuals who received a bereavement lump sum payment from the English Infected Blood Support Scheme have been asked to make a repayment.

On Wednesday 2nd September, members of the infected blood community will be holding a protest in Westminster to highlight the Government’s continued failure to deliver fair compensation to the victims and loved ones of the greatest treatment disaster in the history of the NHS.

The protest will take place from 12:00 – 16:00, and will be by the King George V statue (Old Palace Yard, Abingdon Street, SW1P 3JY).

Before we join the community on the day, we’ll be part of a delegation heading to 10 Downing Street to hand in our book of letters to Prime Minister Andy Burnham, calling on him to finish this fight for justice.

As more people are invited by the Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA) to make claims, we're keen to understand the biggest problems you’re facing. If you've experienced any difficulties with your claim, or if you've had problems dealing with IBCA, please let us know by emailing [email protected]

Whether it's delays, communication, evidence requests, uncertainty about the process, or anything else, we'd really like to hear about it.

The more we understand about what's happening, the better equipped we'll be to raise these issues with the Cabinet Office and IBCA and push for changes.

Our wonderful helpline colleagues will also try their best to help and see if they can provide advice on any of the issues you're facing.

Our next online support group session for those specifically in the “affected” community (partners, parents, children, siblings and carers of those infected with hepatitis B, C or HIV through blood and blood products) will be held on Monday 17 August from 5-6.30pm.

We very much hope that this group will provide a safe, friendly and confidential space for all those in the “affected” community to come together, feel connected and share their experiences, perspectives and get support and information.

It's World Hepatitis Day!

This year, we're marking the day as a four nations initiative, celebrating the progress made towards eliminating hepatitis C across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, while recognising that sustained action is needed to reach our shared goal of elimination by 2030.

Across the UK, our staff and partners are hosting events to raise awareness, connect people with testing and treatment, and help break down the barriers to hepatitis elimination.
