I went to the hospital today because I woke up to find my internal processor site really sore and painful.

I really thought the last time before this was the last issue 🫠 it’s so important to get any issues with the CI seen and sorted before it gets worse.

Charity workers knocked on MY door.

I answered. I said: “Sorry, I can’t hear very well.”

And they turned around and walked off mid-sentence. No writing it down. No pointing at the leaflet. No trying. Gone. đź’€

I’m deaf. This happens constantly at the door, in shops, at the GP. The second communication takes slightly more effort, we stop being worth the conversation.

If your “engagement with the public” collapses the moment the public is disabled, that’s not engagement. That’s audism.
Deaf people aren’t hard work. Your unwillingness to adapt is. 👑

No “let me write it down.” No pointing at the leaflet. No trying or using gestures. Just... gone.

This isn’t new, this happens to deaf people EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. At the door. In shops. At the GP. The second communication takes slightly more effort, we stop being worthy of conversations.

They knocked on MY door. They wanted MY time, MY money. Too much effort apparently.

If your “engagement with the public” falls apart the second the public is disabled... that’s not engagement. That’s audism.
Deaf people aren’t hard work. Your unwillingness to adapt is.
