Rice pudding but more supportive...👇🏼

Happy to take on the burden of testing this one ...

I loved the concept but it was far too sweet for me, so I built my own supportive twist on it. Also the 31g of protein and choline is split across 2 portions so a little inaccurate.

Blood sugar balance is so important during pregnancy - especially in the first trimester as it can help reduce symptoms like nausea and vomiting (my old friends).

Original creator:

Here’s my upgraded version:

Ingredients (serves 2)
• 1/2 cup quinoa (rinsed well)
• 2 cup milk of choice
• 2 eggs
• 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
• 1/6 cup chicory or maple syrup
• 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
• 1/2 tsp cinnamon
• Pinch of salt

Blueberry chia jam topping:
• 2 cups frozen blueberries
• 1 tbsp chia seeds
• squeeze of lemon juice

Method
1. Rinse quinoa thoroughly.
2. Add quinoa, milk and vanilla essence to a saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 12-15 minutes until absorbed but not fully.
3. Whisk eggs, flaxseed and syrup separately in a bowl.
4. Take off the heat and slowly stir the warm quinoa mixture into the eggs 1 tbsp at a time, until half is in the bowl stirring continuously so they thicken without scrambling.
5. Then add the contents of the bowl back into the pan and turn the heat back on - keep stirring every 10-20 seconds until thick.
6. Add to serving bowl and top with some greek yogurt and berry jam.

For the topping:
Gently heat berries of choice with a squeeze of lemon until they break down (10 mins) then take off the heat. Stir in chia seeds and leave to thicken for 10 minutes.

Wait... yoghurt becomes THIS? 👀

Loved this idea from and knew I had to give it a go 💚 check out her page!

A simple homemade labneh made from just Greek yoghurt, lemon and salt, strained overnight until thick, creamy and spreadable.

I served mine with tomatoes, cucumber, olive oil, black pepper and sunflower seeds alongside a bagel and it was absolutely delicious.

Recipe:
500g Greek yoghurt
2 tsp lemon juice
1¼ tsp salt

Method:
- Mix the yoghurt, lemon juice and salt together.
-Line a sieve with cheesecloth, muslin or strong kitchen paper and place over a bowl.
-Add the yoghurt mixture, fold the cloth over the top and place a small bowl or mug on top to weigh it down.
-Refrigerate for 24 hours.
-Unwrap, gently press out any extra liquid and serve.

Definitely one I'll be making again.

First trimester nutrition can look very different when nausea and vomiting are involved...

For me, eggs on toast with dukkah became one of my safe meals. Simple enough to stomach, but still gave me carbs, protein, fat and flavour.

The most supportive approach is:
Start with what you can manage, then build where you can.

That might mean adding eggs to toast, cheese to crackers, yoghurt to fruit, milk to cereal, or peanut butter to a bagel.

And if you’re looking for B6-rich foods to try, save this list...
B6-rich foods that may feel manageable in pregnancy:
• bananas
• potatoes
• chickpeas
• chicken
• salmon
• cereals
• pistachios
• sunflower seeds
• oats
• eggs

Vitamin B6 has been studied for nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, but food tolerance is so individual in the first trimester. Start with what feels realistic.

And please speak to your GP or midwife if you’re vomiting a lot, struggling to keep fluids down, losing weight, or finding it hard to function. Medication can be needed, and that’s okay.

Safe foods first. Build when you can.

The thing that changed how much I cook wasn't a new recipe or a meal plan. ad It was this.

I've been using the TM7 and somehow my nearly-4-year-old is now the one asking to cook dinner. Bolognese, muffins, salads - he just knows which button to push.

If decision fatigue is what's stopping you from cooking more, this is worth looking at.

Before you make the dot cake everyone's posting — watch this 👇🏼

This is my supportive take on the dot cake trend I'm seeing EVERYWHERE.

The sponge is so versatile - essentially the same recipe as the pancakes I make for my son every weekend:
- 2 bananas
- 2 eggs
- tsp baking powder
- tbsp chia seeds
- 1 cup/90g oats
(Option to add a handful of spinach too - more greens and it doesn't impact the flavour)

Icing:
- equal parts Greek yogurt + cream cheese
- dash of vanilla extract (optional)
- I added some protein powder (optional), I use

"Sprinkles" - just blitz some frozen berries and add on top.

This is such a winner - definitely worth a try - tag me in your creations 💚

What have I missed??

Language is so powerful when it comes to shifting our mindset around food, and when our mindset shifts... So does our experience.
