💛 The Hidden Toll of SEN Parenting 💛
As SEN parents, we become experts at changing plans.
We cancel days out.
We leave events early.
We say no to invitations.
We spend hours planning things that may not happen at all.
No one really talks about the emotional toll this takes.
The disappointment when a family day out ends after 20 minutes.
The guilt of letting people down.
The anxiety of wondering whether a plan will work.
The exhaustion of always needing a Plan B, C and D.
Many of us have become so used to adapting our lives around our children’s needs that we barely notice how much we have given up along the way.
And whilst we do it willingly because we love our children, that doesn’t mean it isn’t hard.
There can be a quiet sadness for the spontaneity that other families seem to enjoy without a second thought.
But there is another side too.
The resilience.
The patience.
The problem-solving.
The determination.
Because SEN parents learn to celebrate the wins that others may never notice.
The successful trip.
The extra 10 minutes at an event.
The overnight stay.
The new experience that didn’t end in tears.
The small steps that lead to big progress.
If you’re a SEN parent constantly changing plans, saying no, leaving early and carrying the emotional load behind the scenes, please know this:
You are not failing.
You are adapting.
And that takes far more strength than most people realise.
💛 We see you.
