Celebrating National Volunteers’ Week, we’re proud to recognise that every member of the Camden Baby Feeding Team began their journey as a volunteer—whether supporting infant feeding within our team, volunteering in another borough, or contributing to services like Home-Start.

Even now, volunteering continues to be part of our team’s story, with one member supporting the National Breastfeeding Helpline and another giving their time to the Scouts. Volunteering is a powerful way to build confidence, gain valuable experience, and even take the first steps into a new career. At CNWL, our Volunteer to Career programme offers support and opportunities to help turn that first step into a fulfilling future.

Lets talk about fl**ge size.

Just like our breasts, ni***es come in different sizes, and it's likely that your own ni***es are different from each other. They are sisters, not twins.

If you need to introduce pumping, getting the correct fl**ge size is key for your comfort and it is likely to help to get a better volume of milk

Here is a quote from the Fl**ge fits guide- the full guide can be found in the pictures, also by doing a quick internet search.

'Feel of the fl**ge (size, shape, material)
Which fl**ge size, shape or material is the most
comfortable (but also gets out the most milk)?
Often, a fl**ge that is closest to the actual size of the ni**le feels
best (and gets the most milk out). Start by measuring how wide
the tip of each ni**le is (left can be different than right).
1. Gently touch/tug the ni**le to help it stick out a bit.
2. Use a tool with centimeters (cm) or millimeters (mm). Start
with 0 next to one edge of the ni**le tip. The tool does not
need to touch the ni**le.
3. Turn on the pump on a low vacuum/intensity level and try
pumping with 2 or 3 hard plastic fl**ge sizes: one a little
smaller than the ni**le, one about the same size, and one
a little bigger than the ni**le.
• Best fit or optimal fit: The sides of the ni**le touch
the sides of the fl**ge tunnel and the ni**le gently
glides a little bit back and forth. It should also be
comfortable and milk should come out easily.
• Too small: The ni**le will not move easily in the
tunnel and less/no milk comes out.
• Too large: It may hurt, make the ni**le get bigger than
it usually is (swollen) and less milk comes out. ' Fl**ge fits guide 2023

Unfortunately we hear that some people are told what fl**ge size they need just by looking at their ni**le.
Please measure your own ni**le for the correct fl**ge size if you are unsure, or come to one of our baby feeding drop-ins.

It is safer sleep week, but safer sleep should be at the front of our minds all of the time as it is so important.

When it comes to your baby's sleep space, keep it simple to keep it safe.
You don't need to buy lots of products or spend money on expensive items.

Follow The Lullaby Trust to learn why a clear cot is the safest cot for your baby this safer sleep week.

What clothes are best to breastfeed in? Anything that makes you feel comfortable.

You might find that a top with a lower neckline helpful, layering a jumper over a vest, wrap tops and dresses, zip fronted dresses and tops, tops and dresses with buttons at the front.

Using a nursing cover or scarf is a personal choice; what every makes you feel more comfortable.

You don't necessarily need specific nursing tops or dresses.

Come to one of our drop-ins to practice feeding out and about while you build your confidence.
