Meet the team and the communities they’re ready to empower:

Becky Lee will be supporting the Hong Kong and international community.

Sophie Choudhry is working with Reading University students and the wider community.

Andrea Malcolm will be supporting vulnerable women and girls across Reading, including different faith communities.

Helen Fischle is taking her new skills back to Alabama A&M University in the United States.

Andrea shared it best:
“Personal safety is not a luxury; it is a fundamental right... I cannot wait to put these skills to work and support those who need it most in our community.”

This training was delivered completely free of charge thanks to funding from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) Thames Valley and the Reading Safer Community Partnership, as part of the Reading: Empowering Women and Girls initiative.

At Soar With Us, we use the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale to assess the impact of our personal safety and self-defence workshops.

We recently asked participants to respond to this powerful statement:

💬 “I feel that I am a person of worth.”

Before our 2-hour workshop:
🔸 20 strongly agreed
🔸 60 agreed
🔸 20 disagreed

After the workshop:
✅ 38 strongly agreed
✅ 62 agreed
🚫 0 disagreed

That’s a 100% reduction in self-doubt—in just two hours.
