At the Jonathan Britto Clinic, recovery is more than physical - it’s emotional, mental and restorative.
Our Prepare & Repair™ plan includes REVIVE - designed to help you nurture calm, positivity, and mindfulness as you heal.
Empathy and understanding in recovery is as important as technical skill in surgery. The recovery phase is important to understand, so to make the best of this time. There is often an emotional “high” in the first day or two, as you realise that you have come through the surgery and none of your potential fears have materialised. This can be described as a euphoria…
By about day 5 after surgery the bruising if there is any starts to come through and the swelling is maximal with taught shiny tissues. The scars are not yet soft. You feel well, but perhaps not yet able to freely be on show - the mismatch can be frustrating and this is an emotional “low”. You may start to wonder what you have done and whether it’s a good idea….
Good support by friends and family is a very powerful thing at this stage, whereas open scepticism will bring you down. Surround yourself with good people and you will feel much better…
By two weeks, the bruising and swelling is on the wane, and the best features of your result have become familiar to you. Dissolving stitches are falling away. You can see the trajectory to a soft supple and stable result, which for different patients and different procedures becomes obvious at 6-12 weeks. You begin to feel buoyant, you return to work, and begin to appreciate what others me be saying (if at all).
• Start your day with presence - sip your juice, walk mindfully, and notice the world around you.
• Focus on the benefits that you can see, and do not fret about natural healing irregularities and frustrations in the early recovery phase.
• Choose uplifting activities: a good book, creative hobbies, or gentle mindfulness.
• Keep positive - hold onto thoughts and memories that make you smile.
