We invite you to a webinar on end-of-life doulas. Although the phenomenon of end-of-life doulas is rapidly expanding across the globe, the clear boundaries of this role at the intersection of medicine, psychology, and spiritual support are still taking shape. In this webinar, we will discuss how this emerging professional identity is being defined.

Together with our expert, we will address some of the most poignant and candid questions. Are end-of-life doulas needed in countries where palliative care is still developing, and what role can they play? How exactly does their role differ from the tasks of traditional palliative care specialists—doctors, nurses, psychologists, and social workers? Where do medical protocols end and the doula’s area of responsibility begin? We will explore in detail how this unique experience of care and presence can be integrated into multidisciplinary hospice teams.

We are pleased to share the video recordings of the third webinar in our series on spiritual support in paediatric palliative care. This time, we moved from theory to pure practice, with a detailed analysis of real clinical situations. Head Nurse Tamara Kvizhinadze from Georgia and psychologist Aigul Ysykeeva from Kyrgyzstan used two profound case studies to demonstrate how to build a dialogue with families in a multicultural environment and how to mindfully support a child through questions of faith, fear, and the search for meaning.

Case studies are a distinctive format. They are not only informative but also deeply resonant and, in a way, personal. We wholeheartedly recommend these videos to physicians, nurses, psychologists, and coordinators of paediatric palliative care services.

Старшая медсестра Тамара Квижинадзе из Грузии и психолог Айгуль Ысыкеева из Кыргызстана на примере двух глубоких кейсов разобрали, как выстраивать диалог с семьёй в мультикультурной среде, а также как бережно поддерживать ребёнка в вопросах веры, страха и поиска смыслов.

Разбор кейсов — это особый формат. Он не просто полезный, но еще и очень глубокий, в чём-то личный. Мы искренне рекомендуем эти видео врачам, медсестрам, психологам и координаторам детских паллиативных служб.

The first stage of the International Educational Programme on Palliative Care in Tashkent has been successfully completed. The team for the future hospice covered foundational theory, laid the groundwork for multidisciplinary collaboration, and worked through complex clinical cases. Moving forward, the specialists will proceed to the next training modules, which will take place after the hospice opens. We are launching a new column, Palliative Care: Simply Put, in which we will share the experiences of doctors, nurses, psychologists, and other professionals—real stories told by real people. It is a great honour to share them with you. We believe that such testimonies not only help us learn from our colleagues' practices but also deepen our understanding of the very essence of palliative care, which, above all, is built on people.

🔹 June 1 marked a new milestone in the development of palliative care in Uzbekistan 🇺🇿, with the launch of the International Educational Programme for the staff of the new hospice in Tashkent and the official opening of the Republic’s specialised Association. Welcoming remarks at the ceremony were delivered by Roman Sklotskiy, Managing Director of PACED; Association leaders Yakhyo Ziyaev and Rustam Narbaev Рустам Нарбаев; and honoured guests from the Government of Uzbekistan O'zbekiston Respublikasi Sog'liqni saqlash vazirligi and World Health Organization (WHO).

🔹 The training programme will roll out in three stages, covering theory and bedside practical training, culminating in a final knowledge audit and skill consolidation. The first stage of the programme began with interactive lectures and complex clinical case studies for the Uzbek colleagues, led by Marius Ciurlionis, an expert from Lithuania.

This joint effort by the government, experts, and the international community lays the foundation for high-quality, sustainable palliative care in the country.

🔹 1 июня начался новый этап в развитии паллиативной помощи Узбекистана 🇺🇿: стартовала Международная образовательная программа для сотрудников нового хосписа в Ташкенте и официально открылась профильная Ассоциация Республики. На церемонии со вступительным словом выступили управляющий директор PACED Роман Склоцкий, руководители Ассоциации Яхъё Зияев и Рустам Нaрбаев Рустам Нарбаев, а также почётные гости из Правительства Узбекистана O'zbekiston Respublikasi Sog'liqni saqlash vazirligi и ВОЗ World Health Organization (WHO).

🔹 Обучение по программе пройдет в три этапа: от теории и практических тренингов у постели больного до итогового аудита знаний и закрепления навыков. Первые интерактивные лекции и разбор сложных клинических кейсов для узбекских коллег уже провёл литовский эксперт Мариус Чюрлёнис Marius Ciurlionis.

Такое объединение усилий государства, экспертов и международного сообщества закладывает фундамент для качественной и устойчивой паллиативной помощи в стране.

Mariam Palavandishvili is the Executive Director of the hospice at Peristsvaleba (Transfiguration) Convent in the heart of Tbilisi. After studying law and economics, she joined the convent as a volunteer. Her professional expertise proved vital when the spiritual service required systemic support.

In this interview, Mariam discusses how an economic background helps manage a charity, while faith guides care for people. She explains why modern care is a science and how to ensure that bureaucracy does not steal time from patients. This is a conversation about professionalism and structure, which form the backbone of sincere compassion.

🔹 On May 16, the 20th World Congress of the European Association for Palliative Care - EAPC Vzw concluded in Prague 🇨🇿. This key event of the year brought together more than 2,000 specialists from around the world.

Sofya Sahakyan, a clinical psychologist from Armenia and an active member of the PACED community, attended the congress. This important trip and Sofya's participation in the international exchange of experience were made possible by the generous support of H. Hovnanian Family Foundation Armenia.

May 28 marks the third meeting of our series on spiritual support in paediatric palliative care. This time, we are moving from general principles to an in-depth analysis of clinical cases—examining how spiritual care is put into practice when protocols meet real human experience.
Two case studies will be presented by Tamara Kvizhinadze (Georgia) and Aigul Ysykeeva (Kyrgyzstan). Following each presentation, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions or share their experiences of similar situations.
