So, we have to imagine that it's a short circuit which is passing through the brain and every time you have a seizure, it's like a couple of million neurons which are getting destroyed forever. And because of the fact that there are billions of neurons within the brain, you may not feel the effect immediately.
But if it continues over a period of time, it could be disastrous, especially for the growing brain in kids."

Epilepsy varies a great deal. 70% can have controlled seizures. For the 30% who don't, things get tricky. With many seizures - especially tonic-clonic and status epilepticus - some brain cells die. And people can be exposed to seizure-related injury and be at higher risk of SUDEP. Also, there can be

- a decreased life expectancy
- a decrease in cognitive ability
- decreased quality of life

This is why epilepsy surgery can be something to consider for many people!

Constipation is a very common issue for many people and people shouldn't be embarassed about it!

What about this idea: could constipation affect if an antiseizure medication is absorbed into someone's system?! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

๐Ÿ—จ๏ธ "What we're saying is that constipation (that could be caused by drugs or the underlying neurological problem), has had an effect on the motility of the medication, and thus the drug absorption. So, the drug absorption, then, would possibly go down, which then makes them vulnerable to seizures."
