This one mineral is critical for your immune system, your hormones, your skin, and your mental health — and a huge proportion of people are quietly deficient in it.

Zinc is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions and is critical for immune defence, wound healing, testosterone production, thyroid function, skin repair, and cognitive sharpness. Your body can't store it, so you need it consistently from food or supplements.

Deficiency is incredibly common especially in vegetarians and vegans, because the zinc in plant foods is bound to phytates that block absorption. Signs of low zinc include frequent colds, slow wound healing, hair thinning, loss of smell or taste, acne, and low mood. The best food sources are oysters by a mile, followed by red meat, pumpkin seeds, and shellfish.

If supplementing, zinc bisglycinate or picolinate are the most absorbable forms.

Don't take it on an empty stomach and if you supplement long term, balance it with a small amount of copper.

One of the most powerful health tools for your heart and brain and for longevity has existed for thousands of years.

Regular sauna use has been consistently associated with improved circulation, deeper relaxation and lower all-cause mortality in some long-term studies.

Heat exposure places the body under controlled stress, increasing heart rate and activating heat shock proteins that help protect and repair cells.

Many people also notice better sleep and lower stress levels after regular sauna use.

Sweating may also help eliminate small amounts of certain heavy metals and environmental compounds.

Every time you chop vegetables on a plastic cutting board, you're adding microplastics directly to your food — and the numbers are staggering.

A study published in Environmental Science and Technology estimated that a standard plastic cutting board sheds around 50 million microplastic particles into your food every year.

Every knife stroke scrapes tiny fragments of plastic directly onto whatever you're preparing and you eat them. Microplastics have now been found in human blood, lungs, liver, kidneys, placentas, and breast milk. They carry with them plasticisers like BPA and phthalates, which are known endocrine disruptors meaning they interfere with your hormones at extremely low doses.

The fix is simple and permanent: switch to a wooden or glass cutting board. Wood has the added benefit of being naturally antimicrobial studies show bacteria actually die in the grain of wood, whereas plastic boards develop knife grooves that harbour bacteria and are nearly impossible to fully sanitise. Ditch the plastic board. It's one of the easiest swaps you can make in your kitchen.

There’s a food used in traditional Chinese medicine that can help the body cope better with hot weather.

It contains citrulline, an amino acid that helps dilate blood vessels, improving circulation and helping the body release heat more effectively through the skin. And that food is watermelon.

Unlike iced drinks, which in Chinese medicine are believed to weaken digestion and disrupt the body’s internal balance, this food helps cool the body in a gentle but effective way.

Sea Zinc

An extraordinary product from the sea, this is frequently reordered by patients of the clinic.

The natural blend of nutrients in this 100% oyster extract makes it almost the perfect supplement. Unlike synthetic Zinc and Copper supplements where it can cause other mineral imbalances, this is perfectly in balance of these minerals along with B12 and iodine and selenium.

We focus on what we eat, but how we cook it matters just as much for long-term health and longevity.
