From Ballerina to Tech Founder, how did that happen?

Today is International Dance Day, and it feels like a moment to come full circle.

My career began as a ballerina, training with the English National Ballet and performing with Scottish Ballet. It was everything to me, until it wasn’t. Injury, pressure, and being told I wasn’t the right size slowly pulled me away from something I loved. For a time, I couldn’t even look at dance.

But movement has a way of finding you again.

I retrained in health and fitness, and that is where my eyes opened and I got excited. I saw, clearly, that music and movement are not about perfection, they are about wellbeing, expression, connection, and healing.

Over the past 30 years, I have had the privilege of teaching tens of thousands of people that they can move, they can dance, they can sing, and they can use music as a powerful tool for their health.

That journey led me to found danceSing , an evidence based digital wellbeing platform supporting older adults across care and senior living. What started as something personal has become a mission, to help people live with more joy, more movement, and more connection at every stage of life.

Dance is not about being the right size, or fitting a mould.

It is about being alive in your body.

So today, move in whatever way you can. Even a small moment of music and movement can shift your state, calm your nervous system, and remind you of who you are.

FREE 5-Day Energy & Weight Loss Workshop
20- 24 April 2026 with Monica Durigon

If you’re in perimenopause, menopause or post-menopause, your body is operating under a completely different set of rules.
And if you have been feeling like:

nothing works anymore
you gain weight more easily
your cravings are stronger
you’re more tired
you feel more overwhelmed
your motivation disappears
your sleep is lighter
your belly feels different
you can’t “push through” anymore
…it’s not in your head
…it’s not a lack of discipline

It’s biochemistry and physiology!

We’re proud to see Healthcare leading from the front, partnering with danceSing to embed meaningful, evidence based wellbeing into daily life across their homes.

This is not about adding another activity.

Music, movement and mindfulness are not ‘nice to have’, they are powerful health interventions. When used consistently, they support confidence, 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗼𝗱 and reconnect people to themselves and each other.
What stands out here is leadership.
A team choosing to prioritise joy, connection and purpose alongside care.
A team recognising that wellbeing is not a department, it is the culture of the home.
And the impact is immediate.

From the first session, you feel it. Energy shifts. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆. Residents come alive in ways that traditional models often miss.
This is what modern care should look like.

If you are responsible for a care home or senior living community, this is worth your time.
Read the article, hear directly from the team implementing it, and ask yourself one question
Are we doing enough to truly support the healthspan of the people in our care?
Because the homes that get this right will not only improve lives, they will l𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲.

A very special day at Mountbatten Hall 💛

There is something quite powerful about walking into a space where people feel connected, energised and genuinely part of something. That is exactly what is building here.

Wellbeing is not being treated as an add on, it is part of everyday life, through movement, music and shared moments that bring people together. You can feel the difference in the atmosphere, in the conversations, in the smiles.

So excited to be working alongside such a committed and forward thinking team. This is what retirement living should feel like, supportive, uplifting and full of life. WellbeingMatters ActiveAgeing LaterLifeLiving CommunityMatters Connection Independence Dignity Longevity DanceSing EnrichingLives

What Inspectors Really Notice About Wellbeing

It is not the decorations.
It is not the themed days.
It is consistency.

Inspectors increasingly look for:
• Person centred delivery
• Evidence of impact
• Safety and risk management
• Meaningful engagement

Preventative mobility sits at the intersection of all four.
If a resident loses confidence and mobility declines, risk increases.
In partnership with the University of Stirling, our work demonstrated a 34 percent reduction in fear of falling within 12 weeks.
That is measurable prevention.

The question is not whether you offer activities.
The question is whether you can evidence preventative impact.
If you lead a Care Home or Senior Living community, are you evidencing mobility confidence?

Most Care Homes Are Delivering Activity. Few Are Delivering Prevention.
There is a difference.

Activity fills time.
Prevention protects function.

In Care and Senior Living, prevention means:
• Structured balance delivery
• Progressive strength pathways
• Consistent weekly sequencing
• Measurable mobility confidence

In our work across 200+ communities, homes that embed structured weekly mobility pathways see stronger consistency across units and clearer inspection evidence.
And in partnership with the University of Stirling, we demonstrated a 34 percent reduction in fear of falling within 12 weeks.

That is not entertainment.
That is risk mitigation.
Care homes and Senior living communities do not need more ideas.
They need structure.

If you lead a Care or Senior Living community, how structured is your current weekly preventative delivery?
We are here to help.

Burnt Out Staff Do Not Need Another Initiative.
They need clarity.

One of the biggest misconceptions in Care and Senior Living is that improving wellbeing requires more staff time.
It does not.
What it requires is:
• Clear weekly structure
• Simple digital access
• Defined balance and strength ratios
• Low friction delivery

Across 200+ Care and Senior Living communities, structured preventative pathways are delivered without increasing staffing levels.
In fact, clarity reduces planning pressure.

When teams know exactly what to deliver and why, consistency improves.
Prevention should reduce cognitive load, not increase it.

If you are leading a Care home or Senior Living Community and want to see what a simple weekly preventative structure looks like, message me.

Care Leaders: Inspection Is Not Just About Paperwork

Inspection increasingly focuses on:

Safety
Risk management
Person centred delivery
Evidence of impact

Preventative mobility is directly linked to all four.

A 34 percent reduction in fear of falling within 12 weeks is not just a wellbeing metric.

It is:

Risk mitigation
Quality assurance
Reputation protection

Care and Senior Living providers are moving from reactive engagement to structured preventative delivery.

The question is not whether you provide activities.

The question is whether you can evidence preventative impact.

Care homes and Senior living who embed structured digital pathways report stronger consistency across units and clearer evidence during inspection cycles.

Preventative wellbeing should be visible at portfolio level.

If you would like to see how structured digital delivery works without increasing staff pressure, message me.

Where do you see the biggest gap in preventative delivery in your home today?
