From Ballerina to Tech Founder, how did that happen?
Today is International Dance Day, and it feels like a moment to come full circle.
My career began as a ballerina, training with the English National Ballet and performing with Scottish Ballet. It was everything to me, until it wasn’t. Injury, pressure, and being told I wasn’t the right size slowly pulled me away from something I loved. For a time, I couldn’t even look at dance.
But movement has a way of finding you again.
I retrained in health and fitness, and that is where my eyes opened and I got excited. I saw, clearly, that music and movement are not about perfection, they are about wellbeing, expression, connection, and healing.
Over the past 30 years, I have had the privilege of teaching tens of thousands of people that they can move, they can dance, they can sing, and they can use music as a powerful tool for their health.
That journey led me to found danceSing , an evidence based digital wellbeing platform supporting older adults across care and senior living. What started as something personal has become a mission, to help people live with more joy, more movement, and more connection at every stage of life.
Dance is not about being the right size, or fitting a mould.
It is about being alive in your body.
So today, move in whatever way you can. Even a small moment of music and movement can shift your state, calm your nervous system, and remind you of who you are.
