Have you ever wondered what happened to confidence you used to have?

Perhaps you used to trust your judgement without thinking very much about it. You spoke up, made decisions, contributed your ideas and simply got on with what you were there to do.

And then something changed.

You started hesitating. Second-guessing yourself. Preparing more. Perhaps becoming a little quieter.

It’s easy to assume that if we feel less confident, we must somehow have become less capable.

But confidence doesn’t exist in isolation.

The environment we’re in matters. Whether our contribution is recognised matters. Whether we can use our strengths matters.

Sometimes a loss of confidence isn’t evidence that something is wrong with us.

Sometimes it’s information.

This week on Proactive Empowered Careers®, I’m exploring Confidence, the fifth dimension of the Proactive Empowered Careers® Method.

There will always be things we can't simply change.

Responsibilities. Money. Commitments. Other people.

But constraints and a complete lack of agency aren't the same thing.

Even when the big things can't move immediately, there may still be smaller places where we have room to shape, explore or begin moving towards something that fits us better.

Perhaps the question isn't only:

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝗜 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲?

But:

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲?

Not everything needs to be solved the moment we notice it.

Sometimes it is enough simply to recognise where our lives already feel like us, and where something may have begun to shift.

We tell ourselves we need a break. That things will calm down after this project, this restructuring, this particularly difficult period.

And maybe things do.

But the feeling is still there.

𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀.

It can be frightening to admit when we’ve spent years building the career and life we have.

But it doesn’t mean we have to make a dramatic decision.

Sometimes we’re just beginning to recognise something much quieter:

𝗪𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱, 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲.

The work may once have fitted.
The ambition may have been real.
The choices may have been right.

And we have changed.

This week on Proactive Empowered Careers®, I’m exploring Congruence and what happens when the life we’re living hasn’t quite caught up with who we’ve become.

𝗘𝗽𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝟮𝟳: 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗔𝗿𝗲

Not every realisation needs an immediate decision.

You can recognise that something has changed without knowing yet what you are going to do about it.

You can notice that your priorities are different.

That something you once wanted matters less.

That an environment no longer suits you in the same way.

That another part of you has become more important.

We often rush from recognition straight to:

𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗺 𝗜 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼?

But there is value in allowing yourself to understand what has changed before asking yourself to solve it.

Clarity doesn’t always arrive as a plan.

Sometimes it begins with seeing yourself more accurately.

And that is already movement.

We explore this and more this week’s episode of 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘳𝘴® :

Something can have been right for you once and not be right for you now.

That doesn’t make the earlier choice a mistake.

We sometimes make ourselves defend old ambitions simply because we once wanted them so much.

The career we chose.

The level we worked towards.

The pace we were prepared to maintain.

The version of success we built our lives around.

But fitting one chapter of your life doesn’t mean something has to fit every chapter that follows.

You are allowed to become someone for whom different things matter.

And sometimes recognising that is clarity enough for now.

We can spend a long time trying to work out what we want next without noticing that the person doing the choosing has changed.

So a question to sit with this weekend:

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗼?

And has your career thinking caught up with that?
