Black sesame seeds are more than just a topping 🌱

In Chinese medicine, black sesame — Hei Zhi Ma — is traditionally used to nourish the Liver and Kidneys, support Essence and Blood, and nourish Yin.

Why might that be relevant to fertility?

Chinese medicine views healthy reproduction as dependent on sufficient Kidney Essence, Yin, Yang and Blood — but treatment and dietary advice always depend on the individual pattern.

Black sesame may be particularly useful as a nourishing food where there are signs of Yin, Blood or Essence deficiency and dryness.

Nutritionally, these tiny seeds also provide healthy fats, protein, fibre and minerals including calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc.

But more isn't necessarily better. Chinese dietary therapy isn't about finding one “fertility superfood"

it's about choosing foods that suit the person in question.

Try adding black sesame to porridge, soups, rice dishes, smoothies or making a traditional black sesame paste.

⚠️ don't use if you have very low energy and loose stool and a damp weak digestion.

little look behind the scenes at a Chinese herbal formula 🌿

This blend has been put together to gently support energy and digestion, nourish Blood and Yin, and encourage the smooth movement of Qi. Particularly when symptoms such as bloating, fatigue, restless sleep and menstrual changes are showing up.

Chinese herbal medicine is always tailored to the individual and their current pattern, rather than treating symptoms in isolation.

I have a big network in Bushey Heath and Stanmore, because I worked for the Disability Foundation for 3 years. The Foundation dissolved last year, but I'm still lucky enough to come to to Bushey Heath to see all my fab patients and work from this gorgeous cabin.

From a TCM perspective, coconut is more than a tropical treat—it's a naturally hydrating food that helps replenish fluids and soothe dryness, particularly during warmer months.

TCM caution: If you often feel cold, have loose stools, low energy, poor digestion or signs of Spleen Yang/Qi deficiency, enjoy coconut in moderation.

Too much cooling food may further weaken digestion and increase dampness.

Coconut water is generally more cooling than coconut flesh.

In classical TCM, summer is when Yang Qi is at its peak and is more outward and superficial. This makes it the ideal time to use moxa to strengthen the body's Yang, expel hidden Cold, and help prevent Cold-related problems from appearing in autumn and winter. This is the basis of the traditional principle of "treat winter diseases in summer
