Bromley by Bow Centre

Bromley by Bow Centre An innovative community organisation based in East London.

The Bromley by Bow Centre is an innovative community organisation in East London, working in one of the most deprived wards in the UK. We support families, young people and adults of all ages to learn new skills, improve their health and wellbeing, find employment and develop the confidence to achieve their goals and transform their lives. At the core of the Centre’s thinking is our belief in people and their capacity to achieve amazing things.

“The best part for me is seeing people go home happy,” says our Food Pantry volunteer Gary in our new video showing the service in action.

Every Thursday at the Bromley by Bow Centre, we support eligible residents aged 65 or over, or 50 or over with a disability, who live nearby. At the pantry, members can choose up to 20 items for £5 including food and household essentials.

As Food Pantry member Aggie says:

“If you need help, don’t be quiet and pretend everything is fine when it’s not fine. Go and speak to the Welcome Hub at the Bromley by Bow Centre and get the help if you need it.”

For more information and to register, see link in the bio.

Or come see us in person to register at our Welcome Hub at the Centre, E3 3BT.

Thank you and great job Jieying Zhang, our communications volunteer, who filmed and edited video 👌

It’s business as usual but we’re asking everyone to take precautions during the hot weather. We encourage people to stay at home. We’re happy to move appointments to telephone or online if helpful.

Please remember to:

🚰 Stay well hydrated throughout the day

🪟 Keep windows and blinds closed to help maintain a cooler environment

🧘 Take regular breaks

If you or others feel unwell:

Seek help if you feel dizzy, weak, anxious or have intense thirst or a headache. Move to a cool place as soon as possible and try to lower your body temperature.

Drink water to rehydrate.

Rest immediately in a cool place if you have painful muscular spasms (particularly in the legs, arms or abdomen).

Seek medical attention if heat cramps last more than one hour.

Consult your GP if you feel unusual symptoms or if symptoms persist.

For further guidance on staying safe during hot weather, see a link in our bio.

We’ll continue to monitor heat levels and keep everyone updated as needed. Stay safe and look after each other.

Big news! We can introduce the founders and social enterprises who are our Beyond Business 2026 finalists.

Valeria Giannuzzi - The Magic Stork CIC

Kim To - Own Your Flair

Fyona Séguin - Looply

Willow Williams CF - ThreadPoint Studio

Giovanna Vieira Co - THE FASHION BLUEPRINT

Romana Gill & Melanie Salisbury - SPRIGS Social Supermarket

Zeynep Binboga Zeynep (Zey) Binboga - Displaced

Ripon Ray (CertMAP) - Debt Talk CIC

We received 107 applications. Each one had a real story behind it. Each one showed a challenge someone is trying to solve. Choosing just eight was difficult. Thank you to all who applied!

The group we now have feels special. These eight founders are trying to solve real problems in their communities. In many cases, the problems come from their own life experiences. They are turning what they have learned into practical and caring solutions.

Over the coming months, we will work closely with the finalists to:

📝 Strengthen their business models

📊 Build sustainable and resilient organisations

💚 Help them grow without losing the heart of what they have created

At the Bromley by Bow Centre, we’re backing people who are quietly and bravely reshaping systems from the ground up. A huge thank you to everyone who applied. And a massive congratulations to this group of finalists.

That was more than just a pitch day.

It was a room full of courage. People stepping forward, sharing ideas they have worked hard to build, ideas rooted in real life, real challenges and real hope.

12 founders took that step.

5 are now walking away with £1,000 to keep going.

But all who took part are winners.

This is how change begins.

Today, for , we held an event to honour and thank our many volunteers whose time, talent and energy ensure our services and activities continue to run with care and compassion. Thank you all!

And a special thank you to Angela, who has completed 200 hours (and counting) volunteering in our Food Pantry. We could write many words here saying how brilliant Angela is, but we decided instead to ask a few colleagues on camera about what Angela means to them.

And well done to Gen Rogers, our Food Pantry Coordinator, for organising the event today 👌
