Most people think breathwork is just a way to calm down.

It can do that. But that is the smallest part of it and honestly the least interesting.

Breathing well, all day, not just in a session, quietly changes things you would never connect to your breath. How much oxygen actually reaches your muscles. Whether you are stuck in a low background hum of fight or flight. How you sleep. How your neck and shoulders feel. How quickly you settle when something rattles you.

The calm is nice. The rest is what changes your life.

Spain won the World Cup in the 106th minute.
I don't know how any of the players were breathing. But watching them push that far past comfortable got me thinking about what happens to the rest of us under load.ut what happens to the rest of us under load.

Because your body does not save that response for sport.

A difficult conversation. Bad news. The moment before you speak in front of a room. Chest tightens, breathing speeds up and suddenly you are breathing like you have just sprinted.

In both cases you end up breathing more than you actually need. In hard effort the urge to breathe fires early and you chase it. Under pressure your nervous system drives the breath with no physical demand at all.

Here is what that costs you. Overbreathing blows off more carbon dioxide than your body is making, so the level in your blood falls. And carbon dioxide is the signal that tells your blood to release oxygen into the tissue asking for it.

Less carbon dioxide, less oxygen delivered. While you are breathing harder than ever.

Tolerance to that urge is trainable. That is what Sunday is for.

Your breath is the first thing to break when the stress or effort ramps up.
It feels like there is no choice. There is.
Session 3 is Breathing Under Load. Breathing through movement, building tolerance to air hunger and staying calm when your body wants to panic. The skills carry straight from the mat into your training and everyday life.

Been with me since Session 1? This is the step up. New this week? Start right here, no experience needed.

Sunday 26 July, 9am, .london.

"Breathwork" is one word doing four completely different jobs.
I use it too. It is the word people search for, and it is on my own class.

But it hides a lot. One person leaves a session euphoric, another leaves panicky and both of them did "breathwork."

I facilitate conscious connected breathing (Holotropic) and I teach pranayama. Different goal, different room.

But my coaching is built on Oxygen Advantage. Chemistry, biomechanics and cadence, trained for your baseline rather than for the hour you spend on a mat.

The two disciplines that changed how I coach are not breathwork at all. Body by Breath, because breathing drills stop at the diaphragm and the tissue that moves it needs work too. And the Play Zone, because every method shifts your state, and almost nobody teaches you to read which one you are in.

Breath, body, nervous system. That is the whole job.

You train your body every week. When did you last train your breath?

Functional Breathwork starts .london this Sunday. Four Sundays, small group, real coaching. A skill you build, not a one-off.

We start with the mechanics of a better breath: nose, tongue and diaphragm. You leave with your BOLT score, a simple number for how calm and efficient your breathing is, and you watch it climb week to week.

What you get:
- Progress you can measure, not just feel
- Steadier when the pressure's on
- Better sleep and deeper recovery
- A bigger engine from the same lungs

Sunday 5 July. 9 to 10am. Après, Deptford.

Your diaphragm contracts around 20,000 times a day, without you ever thinking about it.

It's a muscle like any other, which means it can be trained or quietly neglected. And most of us neglect it, breathing shallowly into the chest, using only a fraction of its natural range. Over time, that means less efficient breathing, more physical tension, and a core muscle that weakens instead of strengthens.

The good news? It responds beautifully to training.

Deep, belly-centred diaphragmatic breathing:
✨ Improves lung capacity
🧠 Activates your parasympathetic (calming) nervous system
📉 Lowers stress & regulates heart rate
🫁 Supports long-term respiratory health

A muscle you use 20,000 times a day is worth training. We use science-based protocols to do exactly that in the Functional Breathwork series, starting next Sunday, 5 July at .london.

A bit about me. I came to breathwork through hard training and high-stress work, two worlds where I kept hitting the same wall, pushing harder but feeling more wired, more tired, less in control.

Learning to actually use my breath changed that. Not as something soft, but as a practical skill that shifted how I trained, how I recovered and how I handled pressure. It genuinely changed my life, so I trained to teach it, and I'm now an Oxygen Advantage Advanced Instructor.

These four Sundays at .london are everything I wish someone had taught me sooner.

Whether you're chasing a goal or just want to feel calmer and more like yourself, there's a place for you on the mat.

Come and breathe with me, from 5 July. Link in the first comment 👇🏻

Your breath is the only part of your nervous system you can control on purpose. Train it and you hold the dial on your own state.

From 5 July I'm running my brand new Functional Breathwork classes at Après, Deptford's only hybrid fitness studio.

Breath as a skill you can train. How you breathe at rest, your tolerance to CO2, breathing under load and how to switch off and recover.

Real, practical and it works whether you're chasing a PB or just want to feel calmer and sleep better.

Four Sundays: 5, 12, 26 July and 2 August, 9 to 10am at Après in Deptford. Small groups, max 12, stay for coffee after. For anyone who breathes, no experience needed.

Come and be part of the very first ones.

Breathwork isn't only stillness.
Some days coming back to yourself means sitting quietly. Some days it means taking the hard feeling out the door and moving until you can hear yourself again.
Both are the practice 🤍
