The time for action is now - there is no planet B.

Dr Amy Booth, Dr Claire Bourke, and Dr Kai Cheong share their reflections on the current barriers to greener healthcare and how we can overcome them.

🗣️ ‘We need to tackle this now urgently,’ says Kai, ‘because we are already seeing the consequences of our inaction, and now is the time to be proactive and collaborative because there is no planet B.’

Together with the US National Academy of Medicine we are giving a platform to early and mid-career researchers in the US and UK on climate change and health.

Climate change affects everyone, so we need diverse voices to solve it.

As a member of Alaska's Metlakatla Indian Community (Tsimshian) and as Assistant Professor at the Colorado School of Public Health, Dr Jerreed Ivanich is dedicated to health research for North American Indigenous populations.

Jerreed highlights the importance of Indigenous voices and working together across communities to build solutions.

🗣️ ‘They’re often left out of the conversation, their voices aren’t heard, and they are the original stewards of this land.’

Together with the US National Academy of Medicine we are giving a platform to early and mid-career researchers in the US and UK on climate change and health.

The frontline of climate change. A&E.

Healthcare around the world is being impacted by climate change, with nurses seeing the effects first-hand.

Dr Allison Squires and Dr Amy Booth share their insights on climate change and health from a clinical perspective.

🗣️ ‘Whether it’s a disaster response, increased migration, changes in health systems [or] moving towards a net zero sustainable health system,’ Allison says, ‘nurses need to be part of this conversation.’

Together with the US National Academy of Medicine we are giving a platform to early and mid-career researchers in the US and UK on climate change and health.

Funding through an Academy of Medical Sciences Starter Grant has enabled Professor Catriona Waitt’s research to protect babies of breastfeeding mothers on medication around the globe.

Since completing her grant, she has built a programme that looks at medications in pregnant and breastfeeding women and produces data to inform women on the amount a drug passes through breastmilk and its likely impact on perinatal safety.

This means patients can make evidence-based choices without compromising the health of their baby.

Your donation lets us invest in medical research and the people who make it happen like Catriona. Help us support more early career researchers this Giving Tuesday with a donation today: https://ow.ly/Ibiy50Qam0G

Involving the public and patients is crucial for high quality health research, but it can be tricky to know where to start.

In October 2022, Lynn Laidlaw, a patient researcher, and Dr Paul Wicks, a consultant on patient-centricity in clinical trials, spoke at our event on the values and principles of public and patient involvement.

With help from Lynn and Paul, we are sharing our top tips for Patient and Public Involvement (PPI).
