Blind in Business

Blind in Business Blind in Business is a charity that helps blind and partially sighted young people in the UK to compete equally with sighted candidates for good jobs.

Blind in Business was founded in 1992 by three visually impaired graduates. Through persistence, two became partners in leading law firms. The third went on to do a Master of Business Administration at Cranfield, and became a successful businessman

A message from our Get Set Progress interns to employers ahead of our webinar on 29 April.

Did you know that only one in four blind and partially sighted people are in paid employment? We believe this needs to change, and we want to show you how you can be part of that change.

On 29 April, from 12:00 to 13:30, we will be teaming up with RNIB’s Visibly Better Employer programme to share our first-hand experiences of the internship and how it works in practice, along with the benefits for organisations and the impact it can have on building a more inclusive workforce.

The Get Set Progress internship programme by Thomas Pocklington Trust has supported over 150 interns across the UK, including within organisations such as Channel 4, the NHS, Transport for All and the General Optical Council.

If you are an employer interested in creating meaningful opportunities and accessing talented individuals, this is a great chance to learn more and ask questions directly.

Register your place here:

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution company, supplying over 11 million homes across four networks. As part of its Mains Replacement Programme, Cadent is upgrading ageing metal pipes to polyethylene (PE) to improve safety, reduce leaks and support net‑zero goals.

To strengthen support for vulnerable customers, Cadent is enhancing its communication process. Currently, MRP letters are standardised and don’t reflect individual Priority Services Register (PSR) needs. This project will integrate PSR needs codes into the automated letter system, ensuring customers receive tailored, accessible communications.

The work includes system updates, new accessible formats (large print, braille and other PSR‑specific options), and internal communications to ensure teams understand the changes and their operational impact.

If you would like to participate in the testing of these new accessible formats please reach out to [email protected] for more information.
