Happy World Menopause Day! This yearโs theme is chronic pain in midlife, which can come as an unwelcome surprise. ๐ฅบ
So, if youโre dealing with aches and pains that just wonโt shift, youโre not imagining it, and youโre far from alone. Joint, muscle and back pain are common during and after menopause, and hormonal changes can play a part.
Thereโs rarely one fix. Think of pain management as a jigsaw: medical support, physio, complementary therapies, and diet and lifestyle. They all play a part and diet can often be the missing piece. ๐ฝ
Swipe through for some ideas to get you started. Movement, strength training, good sleep and ways to manage stress can all help too. ๐ช
Please see your doctor for advice, especially if your pain is new, severe, getting worse or youโre not sure whatโs causing it. Donโt assume itโs โjust menopauseโ. If it is, they can also talk to you about HRT, which might help. ๐ฉโโ๏ธ
Iโve also just released a podcast episode on midlife aches and pains, and how magnesium might relieve symptoms. You can listen here: https://www.well-well-well.co.uk/midlife-aches-and-pains-how-magnesium-might-help/ or wherever you get your podcasts. ๐ง
Thereโs lots more to it than magnesium, of course. If you want the full picture on diet and pain, thereโs a whole chapter in my book The Happy Menopause: Smart Nutrition to Help You Flourish, available in all the usual places. ๐งก
