Black History Month | Healthcare pioneers
Our second Black History Month spotlight is Dr Harold Moody (1882–1947).
Born in Jamaica, Moody moved to Britain to study medicine and later established a medical practice in Peckham, London.
Beyond medicine, Moody became a prominent advocate for racial equality and founded the League of Coloured Peoples in 1931.
His work demonstrates how healthcare professionals can contribute not only through clinical practice, but also through advocacy, leadership and community support.
This Black History Month, we’re recognising the people whose impact extended beyond the consulting room.
