MAES Therapy

MAES Therapy Early Intervention and specialised treatment for babies, toddlers, children and adults with CP Movement Analysis & Education Strategies – M.A.E.S.

MAES Therapy specialises in Early Intervention and specialised treatment for babies and children with movement and coordination difficulties, caused by a variety of neurodevelopmental conditions, which might include for example: Cerebral Palsy, Erb’s palsy, acquired head injury. If you are a parent looking for expert and specialised physiotherapy services for your child, you have come to the right

place. If you are a Therapist and fellow professional looking to increase your knowledge and clinical expertise in relation to CP and similar neurodevelopmental conditions, you are also in the right place. Our approach aims at providing clients with very specific and individualised treatment to improve clients’ coordination of movement on a short and long term basis. During treatment sessions, parents and carers learn about how to best handle and interact with the child to ensure treatment is most effective and carries over into daily living. Therapists wishing to develop their own skills along these lines can do so either by visiting us with their own patients to be mentored, or to attend some of our courses. Our strength is the in-depth analysis and understanding of movement and coordination and then finding strategies to help clients with movement disorders to develop a repertoire of new movement combinations they are unlikely to develop on their own. We look forward to meeting you.

Another wonderful Testimony about M.A.E.S. Therapy!
“We are incredibly grateful to MAES Therapy for changing our life.”

Latest Google Review from Parent –
“We are incredibly grateful to MAES Therapy for changing our life.
After having gone through an incredibly difficult birth (full of mistakes) with a seemingly irreversible condition, - we were extremely lucky to come across MAES Therapy.

This unique and personalised approach that takes the child’s both physical and mental needs into account is incomparable to any therapy we have come across in our journey.

We can only describe what Jean-Pierre achieves with the children a combination of science and art that leads to transformational results.

Over the 11 years we have been going, we have seen incredible progress in our child as well as other children we have been observing throughout the years.”

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Already nearly a month has passed since my birthday!

Thank you so much to everyone who sent me kind birthday wishes for my 60th — on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and in person. I felt very touched and very spoiled.
During my birthday and the weekend, I enjoyed celebrating with family and friends and spent time slowly, doing only things I enjoy, at my own pace — a perfect way to mark this milestone.
I feel grateful for the many good friends I have made over the years.
Best Wishes,
Jean-Pierre

M.A.E.S. Therapy Advanced A.R.T. Course – Croatia
A.R.T. = Advance, Refresh, Troubleshoot

In May 2026, this M.A.E.S. Advanced Course once again took place on the beautiful Adriatic Coast of Croatia, near Šibenik. Due to continued high demand, this was the third consecutive year that we have run this highly valued advanced course in this charming beachfront location.

It was a truly international gathering of M.A.E.S. Trained Therapists, with participants joining from Croatia, Serbia, Poland, Taiwan, the UK and the USA.

The atmosphere throughout the week was one of shared curiosity, commitment and professional generosity — an aMAESing team spirit was evident from the very beginning, with everyone enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, and the opportunity to spend time on the beach after the course finished at 3.00pm each day.
Led by Jean-Pierre Maes, the course offered an inspiring opportunity for experienced paediatric therapists to deepen their understanding, refine their observation and clinical reasoning skills, and expand their treatment repertoire when working with children with Cerebral Palsy and similar neurodevelopmental conditions.

Throughout the week, participants engaged in a rich and varied learning experience, including theoretical lectures, treatment demonstrations, workshops, case presentations and supervised daily practical sessions with children. This combination of analysis, discussion, observation and hands-on clinical practice allowed therapists to further develop the confidence, creativity and precision needed to take their M.A.E.S. Therapy skills to a more advanced level.

The Advanced A.R.T. Course is designed to help therapists advance, refresh and troubleshoot their clinical work. It supports participants in moving beyond familiar treatment patterns, sharpening their ability to identify what is most relevant for each child, and developing more effective therapeutic strategies to support meaningful change.

Many thanks to our local organiser, Marija Maras PT, M.A.E.S. Trained Therapist, for arranging the venue, equipment and children for the course, and for organising everything so well.
We also extend our thanks to all the families and children who contributed to making this week such a valuable and memorable learning experience.

For therapists who have already completed the 4-Week M.A.E.S. Therapy Foundation Course, the Advanced A.R.T. Course offers a unique opportunity to reconnect with the M.A.E.S. clinical reasoning process, develop further treatment confidence, and be part of an inspiring international learning community.

If you are a M.A.E.S. Trained Therapist and would like to continue developing your skills, we warmly invite you to consider joining us for the next Advanced A.R.T. Course in Croatia in 2027.

M.A.E.S. Therapy International – Baby Course
Croatia 2026
"Early Intervention for Babies with Cerebral Palsy and Similar Neurodevelopmental Conditions"
A Great Success!
22 MAES-trained paediatric neurodevelopmental therapists from 9 countries came together in Zagreb for an outstanding week of advanced learning, clinical reasoning, and professional exchange, deepening their MAES Therapy knowledge and practical skills in early intervention for babies.

The course brought together a warm, open, and highly engaged group of professionals who were supportive of one another, encouraging in their discussions, and importantly, open to new ideas and change. It was also a valuable opportunity to strengthen international connections and build closer professional relationships within the MAES Therapy community worldwide.
Alongside the intensive learning, participants also enjoyed time together outside the course, making space for socialising, friendship, and celebration.

Our sincere thanks go to our friends at Mali Dom for hosting us so warmly, and especially to Director Tatjana Petrović for her continued support.
Special thanks also to MAES Team Croatia & Serbia, and in particular to Jasminka Gagula, Paediatric Physiotherapist, who organised the participation of the 9 babies involved in the practical sessions and workshops.

A few examples of feedback following the course:

“MAES Therapy Baby Course is an amazing adventure! You develop your skills in observation of babies, to recognise and pick up things where they need a support early, when there are still not many compensations in place. This course also, more than any other, focuses on parents- understanding where they come from, listening to them, and supporting them by helping them with their baby.”

Joanna Brudlo-Semeniuk
Paediatric Neurodevelopmental Physiotherapist
MAES Therapist - UK

“It’s amazing to see how the M.A.E.S. principles are applied when we treat babies. The principles are the same as with children, as we are still treating the brain, not the symptoms, but recognizing the subtle signs and basing your treatment on the foretell, so that you can prevent before certain issues happen. It is truly invaluable! “

Nika Fuketa, Paediatric Physiotherapist
MAES Therapist - Croatia

“I would highly recommend the Baby Course because it gave us insight into where everything begins. Babies, in a subtle yet very clear way, show us how we truly think, whether we are in conflict with ourselves, and whether we are in the right place. They are a clearer reflection of us.”

Marija Maras Paediatric Neurodevelopmental Physiotherapist
MAES Therapist - Croatia

“MAES therapy courses are for those who don't want to stop learning!! Every course is different! Each baby course provides new opportunities to develop skills further and is full of invaluable information, discussions and insights into early intervention for children with neurodisabilities.”

Carey Perkins Paediatric Neurodevelopmental Physiotherapist
MAES Therapist - UK

“This course has helped me to understand MAES Therapy with a new depth and sensitivity. MAES Therapy is a holistic approach and a Baby Course really helps you to investigate all aspects; from noticing subtle changes in a baby's quality to understanding the dynamics within families to understanding how we can influence a baby's trajectory. This this course helps you to be more sensitive in your analysis, understanding and approach to the treatment of babies with CP and similar neurodevelopmental conditions.”
