The Health and Care Professions Council Set up to protect the public, we are a UK-wide regulator of 15 health and care professions.

We currently regulate 15 professions:
arts therapists, biomedical scientists, chiropodists / podiatrists, clinical scientists, dietitians, hearing aid dispensers, occupational therapists, operating department practitioners, orthoptists, paramedics, physiotherapists, practitioner psychologists, prosthetists / orthotists, radiographers as well as and speech and language therapists.

Today we're proud to share our revised standards of education and training. 🎓

They're a critical part of protecting the public.

These revisions will help education providers 🏫 deliver a high-quality educational experience.

They'll help graduates 👩‍🎓 gain the skills and knowledge to deliver safe, effective care.

We are so grateful to everyone who filled in our consultation. Thank you - your feedback got us here!

There's quite a gap between the highest-joining and lowest-joining professions we regulate. ⬇️

In 2024, 75% of people training to become prosthetists and orthotists joined our Register after completing their studies. 80% of hearing aid dispensers did.

That compares to 97% of those training to be operating department practitioners or paramedics.
