✨ 6 breakfast additions as a BALANCE Nutritionist and why ⬇️

A balanced breakfast isn’t about eating “perfectly”, it’s about combining foods that provide different nutrients to support your overall health, keep you satisfied and make eating enjoyable!

🥥 Coconut yoghurt (with live cultures): Live cultures can help maintain a healthy balance of bacteria in the gut microbiome, which plays an important role in digestion, immune function and producing compounds that help keep the gut lining healthy.*

🥣 Granola: Choosing a wholegrain, higher-fibre granola provides support for regular digestion, feeds beneficial gut bacteria and slows digestion, helping you feel fuller for longer.

🍓 Raspberries: Rich in fibre, vitamin C and polyphenols, these are plant compounds with antioxidant properties that help protect our cells from oxidative stress while also supporting a healthy gut microbiome.

🍯 Honey: We love using a drizzle for natural sweetness! It contains small amounts of antioxidant compounds, but its biggest benefit is making a nutritious breakfast enjoyable and sustainable.

🍫 Cacao nibs: Naturally rich in flavanols, a type of polyphenol associated with supporting heart health and helping protect cells from oxidative stress as part of a balanced diet.

🥜 Peanut butter: Packed with mostly unsaturated fats, plus plant protein and vitamin E. Adding healthy fats and protein helps create a more satisfying breakfast and supports the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.

Small additions. Big nutritional wins.đź’š

💬 Which one are you adding to tomorrow’s breakfast?

*Choose a yoghurt with live cultures, as not all plant-based yoghurts contain them.

We’re not one-dimensional, so why do we expect our emotions to be?

Life can be messy, relationships can be complicated and sometimes our feelings don’t line up neatly. That doesn’t mean something is wrong. Being able to hold conflicting emotions without judging ourselves for them is an important part of emotional wellbeing.

There’s freedom in accepting that you don’t have to feel just one thing at a time – and that you don’t always need to resolve a feeling before you can move forward.

Most of us don't realise how much of our identity is constructed around being useful. From the moment the alarm goes off, our nervous system is conditioned to scan for incoming demands: unread messages, family schedules, project deadlines, or the subtle emotional needs of the people around us. Psychologists call this "external regulation" – the habit of anchoring our focus to external inputs because reacting to others feels safer and more predictable than facing our own blank canvas.

When that external demand suddenly drops to zero, it can actually trigger a micro-panic. Without someone else’s priority to solve, we are forced to confront our own internal terrain. The discomfort that arises in that silence isn't a sign that you don't know who you are; it's just evidence of how rarely you've been allowed to practice self-directed attention.

Choosing for yourself isn't about grand, sweeping life changes or forced self-care rituals. It's often as small as noticing what your body wants to do when nobody is watching. Next time you catch a rare pocket of unscheduled time, resist the urge to fill it with productivity or passive scrolling.

Let the pause sit there for a minute, and see what surfaces.

There is something most of us do when someone we love is hurting. We try to fix it. We offer solutions, silver linings, perspective – anything to make the pain smaller, faster, more manageable. Because sitting with someone in their difficulty, without trying to change it, is one of the harder things we ask of ourselves.

But the people who have helped us most in our lowest moments rarely said anything profound. They asked the right question. They stayed. They made it clear that whatever we were going through, we did not have to face it in front of someone already halfway out of the door.

Showing up for someone is a skill. And like most skills, it can be learned.

Every friendship group has three friends – the one who tells you the outfit is a crime scene, the one who thinks you're capable of more than you realise, and the one who's turned up to every single crisis since 2014, armed with wine and zero judgement.

If you've got all three, you're basically winning at life!

Everyone has days that feel harder to get through than they should.

Here’s a reminder, for whenever you need it, of what’s still true even on the days that don’t feel like it.

Most people are not stuck because they lack discipline. They are stuck because they have spent years being reliably available to everyone except themselves.

Your goal did not disappear. It got deprioritised. Slowly, then routinely, until waiting became so familiar it stopped feeling like a choice.

This is how it happens: the days fill with what is urgent, what other people need, what keeps everything functioning. And the thing that belongs only to you – the business you were going to start, the physical strength you were going to build, the creative life you kept postponing – gets moved. Again. The distance between where you are and where you intended to be is rarely about time. It is about what you have come to treat as optional.

Put it back on the list. This week. One thing.
