Do you know the warning signs of sepsis?

A foot infection can become life-threatening if not treated. Here's how to recognise when an infected foot or toe could be turning into sepsis πŸ‘‡πŸ»

⚠️ WATCH OUT FOR:

➑️ Redness or swelling spreading quickly
➑️ Severe or worsening pain
➑️ High temperature, chills or feeling very cold
➑️ Fast heartbeat or breathing
➑️ Confusion, dizziness or slurred speech
➑️ Feeling very unwell

If you think it could be sepsis - ACT FACT.
Sepsis is VERY serious - seek urgent medical help immediately.

Keep your feet clean, fresh & fungus-free πŸ‘£

Good foot hygiene ensures your feet stay healthy and reduce the risk of fungal infection.

FOLLOW THESE TIPS:
🧼 Make sure you wash between your toes.
🧻 Dry thoroughly - especially between your toes, where moisture can build up.
🧴 Moisturise dry skin - focus on your heels and soles.
🚫 AVOID lotion between your toes - keeping this area dry is important.

A few simple habits can make a big difference to your foot health! πŸ‘£

🎭 London theatre actors...

When the spotlight is on you, don't forget the feet keeping you on stage!

Rehearsals, choreography and hours spent performing can put a lot of stress on your feet - from arching arches and heel pain to blisters, corns and recurring foot problems.

Don't let foot pain become part of the performance. A podiatry assessment can help identity what's causing your discomfort and provide advice on footwear, movement and treatment to keep you performing at your best.

If the show must go on - make sure your feet don't suffer for it

Corns or callus... do you know the difference?

Although they may look similar, corns and calluses are different - and knowing the difference can help you get the right treatment.

🟑 CORNS
β€’ Small, concentrated areas of hard skin with a dense central core.
β€’ Usually develop over joints or bony areas.
β€’ Can be painful when you walk.

🟠 CALLUSES
β€’ Larger, flatter areas of thickened skin.
β€’ Commonly found on the heels, balls of the feet or around the big toe.
β€’ Form when your feet experience repeated pressure and friction.

Both are your skin's way of protecting itself, but if they're becoming painful or affecting your walking, it's worth having them treated.

At Gillian A. Michael podiatrists, we can safely remove painful corns and calluses whilst helping to identify the cause to reduce the chance of them returning.
