Alex TLC

Alex TLC Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity, or Alex TLC, provides invaluable support and information to people affected by leukodystrophies and their families.

Established in 2004, Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity (Alex TLC) was founded by a mother whose sons, Alex and Ayden, had both been diagnosed with leukodystrophy. She recognised the severe lack of information and support available to families in her position and wanted to make sure that no one had to face leukodystrophy alone. Leukodystrophies are rare genetic disorders primarily affecting the whit

e matter of the central nervous system (i.e., the brain or spinal cord). They affect males and females of all ages and backgrounds, most notably children. The majority of leukodystrophies are degenerative, causing symptoms such as impaired mobility, vision, speech and hearing, incontinence, inability to swallow and loss of cognitive skills. In many cases, this sadly means a reduced or limited lifespan. There are over 100 known types of leukodystrophy identified to date, including some so rare they only affect one or two individuals.

It's

This week, we're sharing the voices of people supported by Alex TLC 💙

Alfie's mum says:

"Alex TLC have given us a family, understanding and acceptance. They have been our voice when we were not heard, celebrated our triumphs, and consoled us through the tears."

Stories like Alfie's remind us why small charities make such a big difference every day.

Today marks the start of .

For people affected by leukodystrophy, finding someone who truly understands can make all the difference. This video features a quote from our staff member, Fiona, whose family received support from Alex TLC after her mum was diagnosed with an adult-onset leukodystrophy.

Alongside Fiona's words are photos of some of the incredible people who make up our community. Their stories remind us why small charities matter and why nobody should face leukodystrophy alone.

Big congratulations to Hack, who won £197 in our June 50/50 Cash Draw 💰

“"We didn’t know about this rare disease until seeing our friends dealing with it which made us realise how awful it is. The world still has very limited expertise and knowledge about it. I think if we come together and show our support we can help many people with the condition around the world.”
