“Even I couldn’t manage a pint at every stop - this one’s about the miles, not the pints!"

This weekend, Tom Foddy will visit more than 100 Cambridge pubs over 47 miles in memory of his sister, Samantha, who died from sarcoma in March 2020.

Samantha loved Cambridge, loved its pubs, and Tom describes pubs as “social anchors” - places where people come together and talk openly.

His challenge is about honouring Samantha properly, while raising money to support Sarcoma UK’s work for people affected by this rare cancer.

Read Samantha’s story and support Tom’s challenge:

Our Healthcare Professional Engagement Lead, Sam, is attending the British Orthopaedic Oncology Society annual conference this week.

The event brings together healthcare professionals working in orthopaedic oncology, including care for people with musculoskeletal tumours.

By being there, Sarcoma UK can strengthen relationships, share learning and help keep sarcoma on the agenda with the professionals involved in diagnosis, treatment and care.

This is one of the less visible parts of our work, but it matters.

Remember the sunshine a few days back?

Katriona Norman was out in it, running the 2026 Edinburgh Half Marathon for Sarcoma UK.

She took on the challenge for her dad, who was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma in his pelvis in 2016. Thanks to research and specialist care, he was able to have a complex operation and has thankfully been well since.

A huge well done to Katriona, and thank you to everyone who took part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival for Sarcoma UK.

This Sunday, Rare But Real comes to Glasgow. For Eileen Lander, the city holds a very personal meaning.

Eileen’s daughter Carey Lander, keyboardist and singer with Camera Obscura, d,ied from osteosarcoma in 2015, aged 33. Before she died, Carey raised more than £174,000 for Sarcoma UK.

As Eileen says, “part of your heart stays numb”. Now, as walkers prepare to take on Rare But Real Glasgow, she shares what the city means to her family, and how Carey’s legacy continues in the place she loved.

Read Eileen’s story and find the sign-up link on our website.

They did it!

Cheryl and her son Joseph completed the Camino de Santiago, walking over 540 miles in 32 days.

Starting in southern France, they made their way through the Pyrenees and across northern Spain, climbing mountains and peaks, and making it through heatwaves and storms along the way.

As Cheryl says, they witnessed unforgettable views, met the loveliest people, and "left two pairs of trainers, and a little bit of ourselves", on the Camino.

Cheryl’s husband Charlie was diagnosed with liposarcoma, a rare soft tissue sarcoma, in 2010. Thankfully, he has made a recovery and joined Cheryl and Joseph in Santiago de Compostela and walked the extra 55 miles to the coast at Finisterre, finishing in the sea.

A huge thank you to Cheryl, Joseph, Charlie and everyone who has supported them.

A huge thank you to Harry, who recently took on the Shakespeare Half Marathon in support of Sarcoma UK🏃‍♂️

Harry’s wife, Angel, is completing her PhD in sarcoma research at The Institute of Cancer Research. Her studies, helping to drive breakthroughs in research and bring hope to those affected by sarcoma, have been supported by Sarcoma UK.

Harry ran the Shakespeare Half Marathon to show his support for Angel’s work and to help raise vital awareness of sarcoma.

It’s Volunteers’ Week, and we have something to celebrate.

Today we’re officially launching the Sarcoma UK Volunteer Programme, built with Volunteero

It’s our new home for everyone who gives their time, energy and lived experience to our work, bringing our Volunteers and Involvement Network side by side.

We say it often, but it is worth saying clearly this week: our Volunteers and Involvement Network members are a huge part of who we are.

The campaigns we run, the support we offer and the changes we push for would not happen without you.

Thank you.

A few roles will open over the next week, and our one-off opportunities are already live. First up: marshalling, cheering and crewing at our flagship Rare but Real walk in Glasgow this weekend.

If you have ever thought about getting involved, this is a brilliant place to start. We would be glad to have you with us.
