24.6% of all inpatient births this month took place in our birth centre. Almost ONE IN FOUR babies! 💜
At a time when birth centres across the country are facing closure, we believe it is more important than ever to celebrate, protect and advocate for these spaces.
✨ These are more than just numbers. They represent women being heard, respected and supported to birth in the way that is right for them.
Here at St Helier, we are incredibly proud that 24.6% of our inpatient births took place within our birth centre this month the highest proportion in our local area, and potentially among the highest nationally!
We know there is still so much potential for this figure to be higher. But in the current climate, we are thrilled to see so many women choosing our birth centre and our team continuing to champion physiological birth.
💜 OUR MONTHLY HIGHLIGHTS💜
✨ 24.8%of inpatient births took place in our birth centre, almost one in four!
✨ 68% of births were attended by our dedicated core team, supporting familiarity, continuity and relationship based care.
✨ 74%of women used hydrotherapy during labour.
✨ 55% chose to birth in the water.
✨ 5% VBACs, with these women choosing to birth their babies in the water, a wonderful example of individualised care, informed choice and supporting women to achieve the birth that is right for them.
✨ 24% of women had a personalised care plan because of identified risk factors, demonstrating that individualised care and physiological birth can safely go hand in hand.
✨ 100%of babies experienced skin to skin contact with their mum, with no separation.
These figures reflect so much more than the care provided on the day. They represent a team that believes in women, in the physiology of birth, in the importance of individualised care, and in women's ability to make informed decisions about their own bodies.
We are proud to provide safe, high-quality care within a maternity service rated Good by the CQC, while protecting the calm, supportive environment that makes our birth centre so special (continued in comments)
