Yesterday, we were honoured to be invited by Lead Cancer nurses St George's, Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Group to support .

The theme this year 'United by Unique' places the focus - rightly - on the unique person at the centre of cancer care.

One size does not fit all.

Cancer may be the link but no two people are the same; their experience is different. Their hopes and dreams are different. Their fears and anxieties are different.

Every person diagnosed with cancer is unique - emotionally and physically.

πŸ’› Honouring this uniqueness has always been at the heart of what we do - and - why.

πŸ™Œ Big thanks to everyone who supports us and to 3 of our highly skilled and brilliant Full Circle team at St George's, yesterday:

πŸŽ‰ Woo hoo we are celebrating our first year of funding our fabulous Full Circle infant massage practitioner at Kingston Hospital's Childrens Unit.

πŸ—“ We can't wait to start our 2nd year thanks to the incredible support from parents, children and healthcare colleagues on the ground for our support.

πŸ’― Biggest thanks go to the extraordinary kindness and generosity of our supporters. You quite absolutely and literally make the world a better place.

πŸ₯ An important finding from our work in 3 Children's Hospitals (Kingston Hospital, St George's University Hospital, London and Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital, Brighton) has been the value parents place on having a clinically experienced Full Circle practitioner available to support them and their child during some of their most uncertain days.

The following quote vividly expresses what parents keep telling us: Full Circle is needed in children's medicine:

✏ "Just by having your support brought me to a place of calm and focus to be ready to face (and deal with) the next x number of minutes, hours or days.

Each Full Circle session brought me such peace and helped relieve the indescribable tension I was feeling both mentally and physically. Thank you to everyone who made this hugely valuable service possible for us." Mother of 8yr old with a rare cancer (anonymised for confidentiality).

✏ Our patients' feedback began telling us a different story...

✏ "Both numbness & tingling improved during my first Full Circle treatment, lasting for 2 days. The electric shock pains went after one treatment. This is significant - I have had these for 5 years."

❓ So, what is Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN)? CIPN is nerve damage to the peripheral nerves (affecting hands and feet) caused by chemotherapy treatments including taxanes, platinum based chemotherapy and some immunotherapy drugs. Upto 70% of these patients are affected by CIPN.

β›” Currently, no medical treatment prevents or reverses CIPN symptoms. When chemotherapy treatment ends, CIPN symptoms may improve slowly - over a period of 6-12 months according to Cancer Research UK. Unfortunately, for some patients symptoms are permanent and disabling.

πŸ”„ At Full Circle, we have focused on supporting patients with CIPN for over a decade. By working closely with healthcare colleagues who refer us to patients with CIPN, these patients have consistently self-reported improvements in nerve damage symptoms following Full Circle's remedial touch treatments. Above and following is a glimpse of what we have received from the voices that matter most:

✏ "The numbness and electric shock pains have literally gone after your treatment. I was not expecting anything like this. I can now start to dream of living my life again. Thank you so much."

✏ "The Full Circle hand massage has made a noticeable difference to my CIPN by reducing the numbness and tingling in my fingers. I feel the effect during and after the treatment, and for a day or so later. The Full Circle therapist also suggested I continue to apply similar techniques to my fingers at home and I have created a habit to do this while reading - I have really noticed that my hands are less tingling and numb."

πŸ™ Thanks to our courageous patients, our fantastic Full Circle Team, our healthcare colleagues and lead consultants, and everyone who supports us - our pioneering patient focused CIPN expertise is now across 4 NHS hospitals.

✏ Suzanne Ruggles CEO Founder of Full Circle Fund Therapies

πŸ’› sharing a lovely heart focused breathing technique from training I did a few years ago with the fantastic HeartMath Institute and the most wonderful - ahead of its time training - at the Harvard based Mind-Body Institute, 2007, with their late, great, cardiology Professor Dr Herbert Benson.

I use this technique every day and more so when any internal or external stress ramps up.

πŸ’›

1️⃣ Focus on your heart

2️⃣ Focus on Gratitude - think of someone or something you love and are grateful for

3️⃣ Breathe in that gratitude to your heart. Slowly. As comfortably as you can, for around 6 seconds.

4️⃣ Breathe out. Gratitude. Slowly. As comfortably as you can, for around 6 seconds

5️⃣ Repeat and as often as you can

When a senior nurse asks for our urgent help.... this is what health 'care' looks like:

✏"My team have all informed me that they were made to feel valued and appreciated... that they mattered.

✏ This is what I wanted to achieve for them.

✏ I knew this would make a difference to them, but did not realise how big that difference would be, the morale of the staff from when they came into work this morning, to now, has increased 100%.

✏ What a difference it makes to staff when you care about them.

✏ Thank you does not seem enough.

✏ I am so grateful for what you and Ariel have done."

πŸ™ Immense thanks to fantastic Full Circle Remedial Massage practitioner who worked at pace with our CEO Suzanne Ruggles, rearranged schedules, found funds, made it happen to ensure support was given to our wonderful nursing colleagues.

πŸ’› Funded by generous donations to our Kids in Hospital Appeal which supports hospitalised children, their families and the healthcare workers they rely on.

We are absolutely delighted our Founder and CEO Suzanne Ruggles was invited to yesterday's Royal Garden Party as part of her upcoming investiture. This invitation was in recognition of her tireless efforts and work over the last 25 years in the NHS to bring integrative medicine across 6 NHS Trusts - three of them focused on pioneering integrative therapies in children's hospitals.

Suzanne said: "It was truly such an honour to be invited to Buckingham Palace yesterday and to stand beside so many incredible people who, in myriad ways, have gone way beyond the extra mile to make life just that bit better for others in our society. I am deeply humbled to have been recognised for all we do at Full Circle. Everything I do is with an incredible team of good people around me, beside me, behind me, ahead of me: this is for you all."

🀲 Introducing our new little helper at Kingston Hospital's Children's wards - with Fran our fantastic paediatric lead there. Fran is a physiotherapist by training and we're delighted she rejoined us in January as a leading expert in Infant Massage for our new project at Kingston Hospital's children's wards.

'Teddy' (not his real name) came about because our specific massage doll (used to teach parents evidence based infant massage techniques) was unfortunately 'misappropriated' from one of our other hospital projects 😒 - so 'Teddy' didn't hesitate when he was called into action!

πŸ™Œ We will be getting a proper Demonstration Doll replacement for 'Teddy' as being able to demonstrate safe, effective, evidence-based Infant Massage techniques to parents with a very sick child in hospital, is vital to help preserve the vital bond between parent and infant when in hospital.

🌟 His temporary role as 'Paediatric Demonstration Assistant' has already made him a bit of a star with the kids, their parents and hospital staff too and so he will now be promoted to become our new Mascot.

So, what he now needs is - a proper name!

πŸ–‹ So, friends, feel free to jump in and suggest his new name in the comments, below. The winning name wins...well, nothing tangible at least - just the personal joy that comes from knowing you're part of something just rather lovely. Who knows, maybe we will hear that 'Teddy' has siblings and they may just be found at each of our Children's Hospital projects (watch this space) πŸ˜‰.

So, please fire away with your brilliant name ideas - let's get 'Teddy' a proper name fit for this little bear's important new work πŸ₯
