Aging is a mixed bag. There are things you are sad to see go but there are also many attributes that are unbelievably priceless. Here are some of the things I’m loving about getting older:

💪 Greater clarity

When you become clear of who you are, what you like and what you want - something shifts! No one can prepare you for the sense of liberation this brings. You may have spent years dithering, deliberating, doubting and hoping you’re on the right track, then it dawns on you that it’s was an inside job all along. When I began to see life through my own lens without having it validated by somebody else’s, that dithering lifted.

💪 Becoming more selective

Being an open and empathetic person, many people had access to my innermost thoughts and feelings - my dreams, my longings, my sorrows….and I know I’m not alone. With age, my circle of true confidents has become MUCH smaller. That doesn’t mean there are less people in my life, but that not everyone needs to have access to the deepest parts of me reserved for the select few. Game changer!

💪 More freedom

Aging has given me the freedom of not giving a hoot about what people think of me. This is a gift that keeps on giving. Comments that used to linger and doubts that took up valuable space in my mind are replaced with an inner knowing I’m enough. Priceless.

💪 Attuned to mind and body

If you’ve ever tried to tune a radio to particular station, and failed, you know what it’s like for your mind or body to tell you something that you’re not hearing. There’s a disconnect. Age has helped me tune in, listen and act. More rest and early nights mean less stress and overbooked social calendars. Inner peace is the new going out.

💪 Solid self-worth

The quality of your life hinges on how good you feel about yourself. Self-worth is not a nice to have, it’s essential. Your tool? Self-acceptance. When you feel compassion and empathy for who you are and why you do what you do, you create a safe place in which to learn and grow. Self-worth helps you raise the bar, say no to nonsense and attract better people into your life.

Make a point to check in with yourself today and base your activities on what you’ve got available in your inner tank.

How are you feeling?

Take a deep breath in through your nose and notice what it feels like. Does it feel laboured and strained?

Then spend the day regulating your nervous system - read, walk, nap or stretch.

Don’t compare yourself to what other people are doing - tune into your own capacity. We’re not always up for intense socialising, hiit classes or cold plunges. Stressors which at times can be right but in an overwhelmed nervous system can be VERY unhelpful.

Instead, you may need deep connection, peace of mind, breathing in nature and stillness.

You won’t know unless you become aware of how your nervous system is feeling. Make check-ins regular. And get used to listen to the inner guidance you receive.

Discipline is a great saboteur of your goals ⤵️

Discipline has such a negative connotation and yet it is one of the most fundamental building blocks for living a fulfilled life.

Left to your own devices you may doom scroll, shop, chat or doing what feels right in the moment without thinking about the consequences.

Most goals that you aspire to achieve will most likely require some form of discipline. Meditation, fitness, any form of research, learning a useful skill, becoming a vegetarian, going carnivore, changing your bedtime, no scrolling after 7 etc.

But remember, the outcome you desire is more valuable than temporary dopamine hits. And discipline is the tool that’ll get you there every time.

Here’s a good start 👉 Pick ONE action today that is guaranteed to make you feel really good about yourself when you go to bed tonight.

Make an inner commitment to stick to it. Remember, one action is doable so don’t overthink it. Just do it!

💪 Set an intention

💪 Expect it to happen

💪 Take conscious action

💪 Repeat

It’s a simple exercise but it sets an intention and an expectation that leads to conscious action. On repeat, you’ll begin to see changes that matters💪.

Are you playing safe and small to avoid ‘failure’?

so many of us are and it holds us back keeps a small and stop us from taking space in our own lives.

Learning to expect curve balls and challenges is how we normalise setbacks. They will happen - just like glorious and unexpected joy and good luck happen. It’s a mixed bag.

So don’t let fear of judgement stop you!

Some years ago, a very old friend rung me up after forever and we reminisced about the past.

She told me she’d ALWAYS anticipated big things from me as her perception of who I was as a 20-something was of a confident, directional and ambitious young woman on a mission.

The phone call reminded me of who I was before life stuff, limiting beliefs and unhelpful comments by others had chipped away the edges of who I wanted to become.

Since then, I’ve long realigned with this younger version of me that believes everything is possible and feeling so motivated and passionate about what I do and who I get to help. I’m absolutely that person today but it took looking inside to figure out what was blocking me.

What about you? 💕

Who did you want to become? And are YOU the person you thought you’d be by now? I find that this line of questioning can be really insightful. Life has a way of knocking us and lowering the bar until we forget our original factory setting.

It also shows us that we can put in all the ingredients but that the cake still won’t rise unless presented with the right conditions.

💪Looking back and thinking about who you thought you’d be and what seemed possible for you back then can put you in touch with a version of you that still exists underneath the layer of hurt and disappointment.

Laughter is the antidote to anxiety 👇

Here is a little known fact. You can’t be anxious and have a belly laugh at the same time.

Try it!

It just doesn’t work. Why? Because the emotions come from two different places in the brain.

Some years ago, I decided to take laughter and humour into my own hands rather than waiting for life to deliver it randomly as it wasn’t happening frequently enough IMO.

Don’t you agree?

How often do you belly laugh off your own accord?

Anyway, I started to actively search for and save comedians, memes, films and books that resonated with MY type of humour.

I wanted to make sure Ingad it on tap so that if I needed a good laugh - with it’s accompanying release of stress hormones - I didn’t have to go far. It worked as I have belly laughs daily

You can try it too. If you’re short of time, memes are a surefire way to find something to giggle about. From funny cat videos to quirky introvert memes you’re never far away from a good laugh.

No matter what age you are, you’re never too old for self-doubt. 👇

It can creep in before a big moment, like dressing for a party, going on a date or announcing to the world that you’re starting a new venture.

In that moment…perhaps you’re used to listen to your inner critic that starts to speak loud and clear. But what you really need is your inner cheerleader kicking into action instead.

Here’s what your inner cheerleader might say:

💪 ‘You’re prepared

💪 You’re capable

💪 You’re enough

Repeat until you feel your confidence grow. Doubt doesn’t mean you’re not ready, it just means you care a lot about what’s about to happen and you fear some form of failure.

But did you know that failure is THE quickest form of growth. When things don’t turn out exactly how you want there is a TONNE of information to gain that can improve how you move forward. Hardship and failure IS how your brain grows and develop coping strategies.

So if ‘failure’ is not dangerous but actually useful - what is there really to fear?

Maybe very little.

Think of young children learning how to walk. How dedicated they are and not worried about failure. Yes, they may be frustrated but they keep at it until they master it, and when they do……they BEAM with pride and confidence✨✨✨

We can learn so much from that. The next time you’re full of self-doubt see it as a moment of growth…..💪💛.

People pleasers are not great at boundary setting. It goes against the whole ethos of being amenable and ‘easygoing’.

In my experience, when someone wants to change people pleasing tendencies it often comes hand in hand with a big life shift. A divorce, falling ill, being made redundant or experiencing some form of abandonment relating to an important relationship (romantic or friendship).

It’s like a wake up call. Do I want to carry on pleasing others or am I ready to go my own way?

The journey away from people pleasing is rocky and unfamiliar - after all, pleasing has been a form of survival - but on the other side await freedom, confidence, initiative and courage. When you don’t have to run things by others to get reassurance or validation the time from idea to ex*****on can be VERY short.

This is not about being solely self-sufficient or rejection connections. Far from it. It’s about feeling free to go where life wants to take you and build connections based on feeling worthy and equal rather than fearful of not being enough.

It starts with knowing yourself, what you want and what’s stopping you from being yourself.
