“If I can hear some things, do I really need hearing aids?” Many people sit in this uncertain middle ground.

→ Modern hearing aids are designed for those who “can hear, but not clearly”, especially in noise.
→ They don’t make you old – they make conversation, TV and meetings less exhausting.
→ Early use is linked with better quality of life and keeps you more active and engaged.

If you’re turning things up, lip reading, or guessing words, hearing aids could be life changing – not “over the top”.

Not deaf, but always saying “pardon”? That “in between” stage is exactly when hearing aids shine.

If normal conversations feel uncomfortably loud, or everyday noises make you want to cover your ears, you may be experiencing sound sensitivity (hyperacusis).

It’s not “just in your head”, it’s a recognised condition where the ears and brain react differently to sound. Hyperacusis can make restaurants, traffic, or even household sounds overwhelming.

Specialist assessment can help identify the cause, and therapies such as sound therapy or counselling can make life more manageable.

If sensitivity to sound is affecting your daily comfort, don’t ignore it - support is available.

When everyday sounds feel painfully loud, it could be hyperacusis. Specialist support can help you find calm.

Hearing loss doesn’t just affect what you hear. It shapes how you feel.
• Struggling to follow conversations can lead to withdrawing from friends, family and favourite activities.
• Over time, this isolation is linked with higher rates of depression, anxiety and faster cognitive decline.
• Improving hearing – with aids, communication strategies and support – can reopen doors to social life and a stronger sense of self.

Treating hearing loss is one of the most practical, evidence based ways to support emotional wellbeing and healthier ageing.

Feeling more isolated as hearing gets harder? Better hearing can lift mood, confidence and connection.

The life‑changing miracle of hearing aids - Isolation fades, conversations return, when hearing is restored.

For too long, stigma has kept people silent. Modern hearing aids don’t just improve hearing - they restore confidence, connection, and joy. From noisy restaurants to theatre nights, they make life fuller.

Defy the stigma. Get your hearing tested. Embrace the help.

About 35% of people over 60 need hearing support - and today’s technology is discreet, powerful, and transformative.

You’re not alone if your hearing aids spend more time in the drawer than in your ears.

• Common reasons include poor initial fitting, lack of follow up, unrealistic expectations and worries about stigma.
• With time, fine tuning and proper support, many people who “gave up” at first go on to use their aids successfully every day.
• Honest conversations about what hearing aids can and can’t do are just as important as the technology itself.
If you’ve tried hearing aids and felt disappointed, it may be the experience – not the idea – that needs to change.

Tried hearing aids and gave up? With the right fit and follow up, they don’t have to live in the drawer.

Hearing loss in later life is rarely “just about the ears”. It often goes hand in hand with other health changes.

• Research links hearing loss with frailty, falls, social withdrawal, depression and dementia risk.
• People with multiple long term conditions frequently have hearing difficulties that make managing their health even harder.
• Treating hearing loss can support safer mobility, better communication with doctors, and more confident everyday living.

When an older person’s hearing changes, it’s worth seeing it as a health clue – and an opportunity to protect independence, not just a nuisance.

Hearing loss tells a bigger story about health, independence and memory. Spotting it early gives you more options.

“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” That quote applies powerfully to children’s hearing.

• Missing or ignoring childhood deafness can affect language, learning, friendships and long term mental health.
• With the right support early on, children who are deaf or hard of hearing can thrive academically and socially.
• Specialist services, informed families and joined up care make the biggest difference – and they need proper attention and funding.

Investing in children’s hearing today is one of the most practical ways we have to build stronger, more independent adults tomorrow.

Childhood hearing care isn’t a luxury. It’s one of the foundations of language, learning and future independence.

Have you ever thought, “I can hear you, but I can’t take it in”? That’s a clue, not a character flaw. If this sounds familiar – in yourself or your child – it could be worth exploring APD

• APD is frequently mislabelled as “not paying attention” or even ADHD, but it’s a distinct condition.
• Auditory processing disorder affects how the brain organises and understands sound, especially in noisy or fast moving situations. People may be told their hearing is “normal”, yet still miss instructions, feel overwhelmed in groups, or seem to daydream.
• Common signs include needing repetition, mixing up similar words, poor auditory memory, or preferring written instructions over spoken ones.
With the right assessment, strategies and sometimes technology, listening can become less exhausting and more effective.

Hearing but can’t make sense of sound? It might be auditory processing, not lack of effort. Support can make listening easier.
