Most burnout advice is well-intentioned.

Some of it actually makes things worse.

Here’s an honest breakdown of what genuinely supports recovery - and what the mainstream conversation keeps getting wrong.

2. Sleep.

Non-negotiable. But if your nervous system is locked in threat mode, sleep becomes shallow and unrestorative no matter how many hours you log.

The body needs to feel safe before it can truly recover.
Regulate first. Sleep lands differently after.

2. Cold therapy.

Powerful tool - for the right person at the right time.

For someone already overwhelmed and dysregulated, cold exposure is another stressor on a system that is already at capacity.

Context matters more than the protocol.

3. Talk therapy.

Valuable. Genuinely.

But burnout isn’t just a cognitive pattern - it lives in the body, in the nervous system, in years of stored physiological response.

Talking about it doesn’t always reach where it actually lives.

4. Biomarker testing.

One of the most important tools available for understanding what is happening beneath the surface.

But data without interpretation is just noise.

Without knowing what to look for and what action to take, the results sit in a folder and nothing changes.

5. Breathwork.

The most underrated tool in this entire conversation.

Direct access to the autonomic nervous system.

Clinically supported for nervous system regulation, stress resilience, and burnout recovery.

Recovery isn’t about doing more things.

It’s about doing the right things - in the right order, for the right body.

More rest isn’t the answer if your nervous system doesn’t know it’s safe to rest.

This is the part nobody talks about.

You can sleep eight hours and wake up exhausted.

You can take the holiday and come back more depleted than before.

You can do nothing all weekend and still feel like you never stopped.

It’s not a rest deficit. It’s a regulation deficit.

When your body is stuck in fight or flight - cortisol elevated, threat response active, sympathetic nervous system dominant - rest doesn’t land the way it should.

Your body is still braced for impact even when you’re horizontal.

Sleep becomes shallow. Recovery becomes surface level.

And no amount of doing nothing fixes a nervous system that doesn’t feel safe enough to come down.

The work isn’t to rest more. The work is to regulate first - so that when you do rest, your body can actually use it.

That’s the difference between exhaustion that compounds and energy that returns 🔥

I love animals 😭❤️

Words can’t describe how much.

I always wanted to volunteer at a dog shelter but everything else seemed to be more important.

There was always an excuse for why I couldn’t.

Finally I have made it happen and wow… what a feeling. This is the start to an amazing journey!

I fell in love with a little monkey today as I’m sure you can tell.. and I’m trying to convince to foster (for now 😏)

If you’re thinking of getting a doggie, consider rescues! Even though some of them have been through such pain, they are so beyond sweet and all they want is love ❤️
