Confused about regulated aesthetic qualifications? Most explanations stop at the word "regulated". Here is the plain version.
There are three levels that matter, and they are not interchangeable.
LEVEL 4, Aesthetic Practice. 35 to 58 credits. Health and safety, client consultation, skin science, microneedling and chemical peels. This is the entry point into regulated aesthetics, and it sits at the same level as the first year of a bachelor's degree.
LEVEL 5, Diploma in Aesthetic Practice. 48 credits. Advanced skin science, law and regulation, professional ethics and advanced clinical technique. The same level as the second year of a degree.
LEVEL 7, Diploma in Clinical Aesthetic Practice. 42 credits, postgraduate level. Dermatology, anatomy, pathophysiology, toxins, dermal fillers, complication management and psychological assessment. The highest regulated aesthetic practice qualification in the United Kingdom.
All three are Qualifi qualifications, regulated by Ofqual, carrying credits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework. That is what "regulated" actually means: an awarding organisation, a credit value, an assessment standard and a certificate that exists outside the school that issued it.
Which one is right for you depends on what you already hold and what you already do in clinic. There is no point paying for Level 7 if Level 4 is the honest starting point, and no point repeating Level 4 if your practice is already past it.
